Ducati India

The showrooms were already up, the bikes were already here and now with the official India press event, Ducati India is ready to start its second innings in India with a bang. The folks at Ducati are keen to make an impression this time and the first official press meet took place at the New Delhi Ducati dealership which is the biggest Ducati dealership in the world. Ducati India also took the opportunity to unveil two new Scrambler models, the Scrambler Classic and the Scrambler Full Throttle. The next big step will be the Ducati Bangalore dealership that will be operational by October this year and will be located at UB City. This will be followed by dealerships in Pune and Hyderabad. The Ducati Mumbai showroom is already operational and operated by Infinity Superbikes (Infinity Motors). Apart from these Ducati India plans to have dealerships in Jaipur, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Indore and Goa.

Present at the Ducati India press conference was Mr. Pierfrancesco Scalzo (Asia General Manager of Ducati) and Mr. Ravi Avalur (Ducati India Pvt. Ltd Managing Director). They were keen to point out just how serious Ducati was about India and that they will be providing the same world class service, support and customer activities. Ducati India currently does not have any plans to make a CKD operation in India. Most bikes will come as CBU (completely built units) from the Thailand Ducati factory and the bigger bikes like the Panigale R will be direct CBU imports from Italy. Ducati are able to price it competitively because India and Thailand have a trade agreement which basically brings down the import duties of CBU units from about 120% to 15%. Of-course eventually, a CKD operation will surely begin. We sure are looking forward to test out these Italian beauties on Indian soil.
