Hero Motocorp may be in a bit of doldrums with the EBR fiasco, but that does not mean they are done and dusted. The company has delayed the launch of its big bikes and now are concentrating on the breadwinners. First it was the Passion Pro earlier this month, today they have announced the new Hero Xtreme Sports. This same bike was first shown at the Auto Expo in 2014. The Hero Xtreme Sports has been priced at Rs. 72,725/- ex-showroom for Delhi, Rs. 73,194/- ex-showroom for Mumbai, Rs. 71,515/- ex-showroom for Chennai Rs. 73,902/- ex-showroom for Kolkata and Rs. 71,729/- ex-showroom for Bangalore. Colour options for the new Hero Xtreme Sports are five in number, namely – Panther Black, Fiery Red, Mercuric Silver and the new Black-Red and Pyro Orange colors. The bike will be available at dealerships from July.

Hero Motocorp is keen to point out that the new Hero Xtreme Sports has an updated engine that now produces 15.6 BHP @8500 RPM and 13.5 Nm or torque @ 7000 RPM. This, Hero claims will propel the bike from 0 – 60 kmph in 4.7 seconds. Apart from the revised engine, the new Hero Xtreme Sports also has a lot of cosmetic changes all over. The front cowl or bikini fairing is basically new and now houses a bigger visor, twin LED pilot lamps and looks much better than its predecessor. Other key features include, tubeless tyres, new digital and analogue mixed meters and disc brake at both ends.

Our take on it? The Xtreme is a brand of motorcycle that has its initial bloodline associated with the original CBZ. And boy was that a good motorcycle. But from the first CBZ Xtreme, Hero really had ruined the CBZ line, at least design wise. It had no mechanical flaws as such and individual design parts made a lot of sense, for example the twin seats, the front indicators integrated into the headlights etc. all made sense. But bring all of them together and there was no design harmony between the different segments of the bike. With this update though it finally looks like Hero are looking to regain the lost glamour of the past and designed a motorcycle that looks good, and we already know how rock solid their engines are.
