Bajaj Auto is considering the launch of a fully electric scooter in India by 2020 with it being showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. Their new brand identity as The World’s Favourite Indian was declared at an event in New Delhi recently which was graced by the CEO of Niti Aayog, Amitabh Kant and the Managing Director at Bajaj Auto, Rajiv Bajaj. Mr Rajiv Bajaj stated that work is ongoing for a full electric scooter from the brand and they have no plans to re-enter the conventional scooter market running petrol engines.

Bajaj had previously stated in the year 2017 that a new sub-brand named Urbanite was being worked on with an aim towards becoming a Tesla-like brand in the two-wheeler industry.

A premium Bajaj electric scooter may be similar to what Ather Energy is attempting to do with its scooters in the country. There is no official word on whether the product will draw inspiration from the Chetak models of the past or sport a completely new and contemporary design. However, decent performance can be expected in line with 125 cc scooters of today. with best in class connectivity and smart functions.
