BMW Motorrad India has launched two new premium motorcycles in the country – BMW R 1250 R and R 1250 RT for Rs 15.95 lakh and Rs 22.50 lakh respectively. Even though these bikes share a lot in common, they are totally different from each other when it comes to their sole purpose of existence – one is a naked streetfighter while the other is a hardcore tourer.
BMW hasn’t changed a whole lot in the two bikes when compared to their previous models. However, certain elements have been added to freshen up things a bit.
The new BMW R 1250 R gets slightly revised body panels as well as front and rear fenders. There are new decals and stickers along with a new and exclusive paint scheme. Being a German brand, BMW is known for its utmost attention to the details. In the R 1250 R, we can see that in the rear seat which has the bike’s name embossed on it.

Now coming to the tourer, R 1250 RT is clearly the more intimidating of the two bikes, perhaps, because of its sheer front end. Well, it needs to have that to accommodate a large display and other electronics and also to have the large windscreen. The new model has been garnered with various chrome embellishments like handlebar weights and windshield trim, etc. BMW has also added a new dual-tone colour scheme – Blue Planet Metallic and Sparkling Storm Metallic – for the new model.
As far as the engine is concerned, both the new bikes are powered by the same 1,254cc, boxer-twin that churns out 134 hp and 143 Nm and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. We’ve experienced it in the BMW R 1250 GS too. To fully utilise the potential of the engine, BMW has also provided an extensive electronics package that includes features like riding modes, cruise control, etc.
