Yamaha has revealed the Ténéré 700 Rally Edition. It features uprated equipment, more protection, a special paint job and a piece of some rallying heritage. The Yamaha Ténéré 700 Rally Edition will be available in a few international markets next month. The Yamaha Ténéré 700 is one of the most-loved adventure motorcycles in its segment.

Whoever rode the motorcycle found it to be fantastic in its capabilities and brilliant in the way it handled rough terrain. It was pretty successful in terms of sales too. Now, Yamaha has launched a new Rally Edition of the motorcycle.

This Rally Edition builds on Yamaha’s rallying heritage earned at the Dakar Rally. The Dakar Rally is one of the toughest motorsport events in the world, if not the toughest. It puts both man and machine to the test over days of riding on some of the toughest terrains in the world.

In 1983, the Dakar Rally was held in the Ténéré desert in Africa, and it was one of the toughest ones. Severe sandstorms resulted in over 40 participants being lost. And as you’ve guessed by now, the Yamaha Ténéré 700 is named after this very desert.

The new Yamaha Ténéré 700 Rally Edition that has just been revealed is inspired by the Yamaha XT600Z rally bike that was ridden in the Dakar Rally back in 1983 and1984. It is finished in almost the same shade of blue with yellow details.

It even gets the Yamaha Speedblock graphics that were all the rage back then. However, the Ténéré 700 Rally Edition is bigger than the old XT600Z thanks to changes in the adventure motorcycle segment from then until now.

It also includes several small details like the yellow rims, a 4mm thick aluminium bash plate, an aluminium radiator guard and an aluminium chain protector as well. The Yamaha Ténéré 700 Rally Edition also comes with improved off-road rideability thanks to a small change in its seating position.

At 895mm, the seat height has been increased by 20mm over the standard Ténéré 700. It also comes with an Akrapovic slip-on exhaust system, special gripper pads for the inner thigh and knee and even off-road handlebar grips. It even features on-the-fly switchable ABS.

The Yamaha Ténéré 700 Rally Edition continues to be powered by the same liquid-cooled, 689cc, parallel-twin engine as the standard bike. It has a maximum power output of 73.8bhp and a peak torque output of 68Nm.
