TVS Motor Company has registered the ‘Zepplin R’ name. This development only leads us to believe that the upcoming motorcycle will be made available in at least two variants. When launched, the Zepplin will be the first cruiser from the TVS Motor Company stable.

The Zepplin first broke covers at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. TVS Motor Company revealed the Zepplin concept at the auto expo. The concept featured groundbreaking technologies like a mild-hybrid system, belt-drive, and an upside-down fork as well.
The TVS Zepplin was showcased with a unique Integrated Starter Generator System. This is basically a mild-hybrid system, which uses the starter motor as a generator, thereby keeping the 48V Li-ion battery charged up. It also featured an e-boost function that TVS claimed would boost power output at the touch of a button via the 1,200W regenerative assist motor.
These technologies are becoming increasingly popular in the four-wheeled world, but are unheard of in the two-wheeler segment. The TVS Zepplin concept was powered by a 220cc, single-cylinder engine. In terms of design, the TVS Zepplin was right up there alongside premium motorcycles and could very well be the perfect competitor to the popular Bajaj Avenger series of motorcycles.

However, TVS delayed the development of the Zepplin by quite a long time. TVS registered the ‘Zepplin’ name way back in June 2018. However, no development ensued on that front after that. Now, it has come to light that the manufacturer has registered the ‘Zepplin R’ name. This will in all probability be the top-spec variant of the TVS Zepplin.
As mentioned earlier, the Zepplin concept came with the mild-hybrid system, a belt-drive system, and the upside-down forks as well. These are premium features and will undoubtedly push the prices of the motorcycle up by a large margin. In order to avoid this, TVS could launch a lower variant of the cruiser without these features at an affordable price, directly targeted at the Bajaj Avenger 220.
For those seeking a more premium experience though, the Zepplin R might come with these unique features. However, all this is just speculation at the moment. We cannot even speculate if TVS would actually bring the mild hybrid system into production. We will however, be watching out for more information in this regard. Stay tuned for the latest updates on the TVS Zepplin.
