Italian motorcycle legend Bimota is gearing up for a comeback to world racing in 2025, entering the Motul FIM WorldSBK Championship. Their racing history is rich, with a 1980 350cc World Championship win with Jon Ekerold on a Bimota YB3, followed by Virginio Ferrari clinching the 1987 TT Formula 1 title on a YB4R. Bimota also made a mark in the inaugural 1988 World Superbike Championship, winning seven races with riders Davide Tardozzi and Stephane Mertens. Their last WorldSBK win came in 2000, with Anthony Gobert triumphing on an SB8R at a rain-soaked Phillip Island.
For 2025, Bimota is teaming up with Kawasaki, combining Bimota’s chassis expertise with Kawasaki’s engine and technology. The team will be familiar to Kawasaki fans, as many Kawasaki staff will join the Bimota racing program. This collaboration marks a significant shift for Kawasaki Racing Team after almost 40 years in the premier production-based racing series.
The new team, named Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team, symbolizes the strong ties between Kawasaki and Bimota, aiming to boost Bimota’s global recognition and market presence. The joint effort will highlight Bimota’s craftsmanship and is expected to drive demand for their street motorcycles.
