India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd (IYM) has announced the appointment of Mr. Itaru Otani as the new Chairman of the Yamaha Motor India Group. Mr. Otani, a veteran of over 30 years with Yamaha Motor Company, has held significant leadership roles across global markets, including Australia, Brazil, and Japan. His expertise spans Sales, Marketing, and Corporate Strategy, with a consistent focus on Motorcycle Business Operations to bolster Yamaha’s presence worldwide. Prior to this role, he served as Chief General Manager, overseeing Land Mobility Business Operations from Japan.
Upon his appointment, Mr. Otani shared his enthusiasm, stating, “It’s an honor to lead Yamaha in a country as vibrant and full of potential as India. Indian consumer aspirations are evolving rapidly, and we see incredible opportunities to introduce products that combine Yamaha’s global expertise with the unique needs of Indian riders. Our focus will be on promoting exciting, stylish, and sporty two-wheelers that align with market expectations and set new benchmarks in design, quality, and innovation. Yamaha Motor India journey so far
Yamaha Motor’s entry into the Indian market dates back to 1985 through a joint venture, becoming a 100% subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (YMC), Japan, in 2001. In 2008, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. became a joint investor in India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd (IYM). Yamaha’s manufacturing operations are based in state-of-the-art plants at Surajpur (Uttar Pradesh) and Kanchipuram (Tamil Nadu), producing motorcycles and components for both domestic and international markets.
Yamaha’s presence in India is further supported by subsidiaries such as Yamaha Motor Research and Development India Pvt Ltd (YMRI), Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd (YMIS), and Yamaha Motor India Pvt Ltd (YMI), which aid in product development, sales, marketing, and business planning.
