Big news from the house of Yamaha! The brand just hit two massive milestones — celebrating 10 years of operations at its Chennai factory and rolling out the 5 millionth vehicle from the same facility. And the scooter that marked the moment? A sleek Aerox 155 Version S — a fitting nod to Yamaha’s new-age performance line.
From Ground Zero to Global Player
Since kicking off in 2015, Yamaha’s Chennai factory has grown into a powerhouse for both domestic production and global exports. Today, it builds some of India’s favorite scooters — like the RayZR 125 Fi, Fascino 125 Fi, and the flagship Aerox 155 — while also shipping out bikes like the FZ series, Saluto, and Alpha to countries across Latin America, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
Over 30% of its production is exported — a clear sign that Yamaha isn’t just building for India, but for the world.

A Truly Modern Factory with a Global Vision
Set across 177 acres, Yamaha’s Chennai plant runs on a smart One Factory model where 109 acres are used by Yamaha and 68 by co-located vendor partners. This setup allows for tight integration, faster turnaround, and a highly efficient supply chain.
Over the years, the plant has continually evolved to meet Yamaha’s premium strategy, focusing on small-to-mid range bikes that meet stringent emission norms and performance standards. Whether it’s for the Indian market or high-demand international ones, the factory is tuned to deliver top-shelf machines.
Sustainability at Its Core
What’s cooler than churning out millions of bikes? Doing it responsibly.
The plant boasts a 4450 kW solar capacity, practices zero-water discharge, and is designed to reuse wastewater. Even the building architecture maximizes sunlight and is optimized for green energy integration. It’s one of the most sustainable factories of its kind, not just in India but globally.
Yamaha’s Big Vision
Commenting on the occasion, Itaru Otani, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group, called the Chennai plant “a strategic pillar in Yamaha’s global operations.” He thanked the employees, vendor partners, and loyal customers who helped make the journey possible and promised continued innovation and progress.
What’s Next?
With its eyes on smart manufacturing, sustainable operations, and an expanding global footprint, Yamaha’s Chennai factory is all geared up for the next decade. From mass-market scooters to premium machines and everything in between — this plant is at the heart of Yamaha’s make-in-India & export-to-world vision. And if the first 5 million units are any hint, the next few million are going to be even more exciting.
