Aprilia and Jorge Martin fans might not have to wait much longer to see Jorge Martin back on the RS-GP. The reigning World Champion is nearing the end of his recovery, and the team is just waiting on a thumbs-up from the doctors to set up a private test that could pave the way for his MotoGP return. Martin has a crucial check-up scheduled for the first week of July, right after the Dutch Grand Prix. That will mark round ten of the 2025 season – and also the ninth race he’s missed since his crash-filled start to the year.
His injury saga began back on February 5, during the very first day of pre-season testing. Unfortunately, a second setback followed later that month, just before the season-opener in Thailand. He missed the first few rounds – Buriram, Argentina, and the U.S. – but returned briefly at the Qatar GP in April.
That comeback, however, turned disastrous. Martin crashed and was accidentally run over by Fabio Di Giannantonio during the race. The result? A painful list: pneumothorax, pleural inflammation, and multiple fractured ribs. He spent two weeks in a Doha hospital and has been sidelined ever since.

But now, with his recovery nearing the finish line, Aprilia is hoping to get him back on the bike before jumping into full race weekends again. A recently approved regulation – which Aprilia itself proposed – allows riders who’ve missed at least three races to take part in a private test before their official return.
“We’re just waiting for the doctors to clear Jorge,” an Aprilia engineer said. “Once that happens, we’ll organize a test day using the new regulation we pushed for.”
While Aprilia has three official test sessions scheduled for later in the year – two in Barcelona and one in Jerez – all of those will likely happen after Martin is expected to be back racing. That’s why this one-off test is so important.
Right now, the team hasn’t locked in a venue or date, but all signs are pointing to the Misano Circuit, likely around July 8 or 9 – just days after his medical with Dr. Angel Charte.
If all goes well, fans can expect to see Jorge Martin swinging a leg back over the RS-GP in mid-July, with Aprilia ready to welcome him back into the action. The comeback is almost here – and the paddock can’t wait.
