The march to the end of 2012 World Superbike season continues with the twelfth round, scheduled for the forthcoming weekend at the Nürburgring. The BMW Motorrad Italia GoldBet Superbike Team will see its riders Michel Fabrizio and Ayrton Badovini on track for the Superbike class and Sylvain Barrier ready for the eighth event in FIM Superstock 1000 Cup.
Michel Fabrizio and Ayrton Badovini are back on a circuit that better suits their riding style and the BMW S 1000 RR characteristics and — on the home track for the BMW brand — are ready to redeem themselves after disappointing results from Moscow and fight for top positions. TheNürburgring first appeared in the SBK calendar in 1998 and 1999 but has been a regular feature since 2008 with a completely different slow and twisty layout in the first sector of the track. The layout measures 5137m, with seven left hand and nine right hand corners.
This weekend will also see the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup back for the eighth round of the 2012 season. Sylvain Barrier will be the only BMW Motorrad Italia GoldBet Superbike Team rider on track for this class and he will aim for race victory to keep the title fight open, despite a 31 point gap to the leader. The team decided not to substitute for the injured Lorenzo Baroni pending a final medical verdict on his chances of a comeback for the last two rounds.
Serafino Foti, BMW Motorrad Italia GoldBet Superbike Team Sporting Director, said: “The Nürburgring is a very technical track with good mix of corners that makes it a challenge, even though it suits our bike’s characteristics well. The weather forecast is good. Let’s hope for a weekend with stable conditions so that we can focus and work in one direction.
We will contend Superstock 1000 with only Sylvain Barrier, as on September 10th we’ll know whether Lorenzo will be able to take part in the last two rounds or not. We will wait and see how things go and we’ll take a decision depending on his fitness level”.
Michel Fabrizio #84: “The Nürburgring is the BMW home track, so the stakes here are even higher. The track is a good one and I’ve always been comfortable riding on it, despite a lack of results. We need to make a difference in Superpole, as in the last round our starting grid position made things very difficult.”
Ayrton Badovini #86: “Finally we’re back on a track that suits my riding style, where I can use all the power and make a difference with my lines and interpretation. There are only three rounds left and every result to end the season is crucial to finish where we need to be in the Championship.”
