With close races like this becoming a constant affair at the Moto3, its quite understanding why fans for these races are increasing day by day. Today’s race takes the number one spot for the closest race yet. The race was won by Maverick Vinales by a mere 0.020 seconds and the top three podium winners were within a minuscule 0.071 seconds of each other. Vinales had been on top the entire weekend and so was his close competition Sandro Cortese. The change or should we say the surprise for this race was Romano Fenati who was charged up being his home race and kept pace with the leaders.
The race was not a easy win for these three either. There was constant shuffling of places between Vinales, Cortese, Efren Vazquez, Alex Rins, Fenati, Niccolò Antonelli and Danny Kent. The deciding moves were done by Vinales and Cortese with just five laps left in the race with the green signal from the pits to go for it. The duo almost instantly broke away from the pack with only Fenati managing to keep pace with them. The last laps saw the trio slipstream and exchanging positions and saw Fenati in a last desperate attempt try a different line for the finish but managed only a close second with Cortese a close third.
