It wasn’t very long ago that Mahindra decided to step into the Indian two wheeler market, and when they did, they bought into Kinetic Motor’s two wheeler business for a jump start. Since then Mahindra Two Wheelers has been striving to make a position in the commuter bike market with the Pantero and the Centuro. The feature laden Centuro has been getting a lot of demand off late. The picture, however is going to change with a high probability from just the entry level commuter market. According to the sources of Autocar India, Mahindra Two Wheelers is developing a new 160 cc motorcycle that is highly likely to be a tough competitor for Bajaj Pulsar 150, TVS Apache RTR160, Yamaha FZ series, Hero Xtreme and Honda Unicorn.
Judging from the sturdy and tough looks of the Mahindra Mojo 300 which was revealed in its production form at the 2014 Auto Expo, the new 160 cc bike from Mahindra in the premium segment of commuter category is also expected to have a decent look that will have every element in it needed to attract the eyes of anyone who will see it pass by. Although the specific market is currently ruled by Bajaj, Honda, Yamaha and Hero Motocorp, Mahindra Two Wheelers have their hopes high since their bold decision to invest in an R&D facility in Pune. The facility is readily working on new two wheelers which gives hope to the Indian bikers for a new set of machines to roll out on the streets under the Mahindra label very soon. Mahindra is known to be a leader in the manufacture of utility vehicles and tractors in India, and the same quality can be expected in the two wheelers as well, which is why the bikes from the maker are eagerly awaited.
The 160 cc premium commuter bike from Mahindra is expected to do its debut by the end of this year or by the start of next year. However the fact remains that the manufacturer is currently giving more priority to their 110 cc automatic scooter which is due to be launched by the end of this year. Meanwhile, we have to wait in suspense.
