The 2019 Yamaha MT-15 is a major launch from the company that is expected on the 15th of March, 2019, in the Indian market. The Yamaha MT-15 which is essentially a naked version of the R15 V3 for India and will be slightly different from the Indonesian model. First of all the USD forks are swapped for telescopic ones to keep costs down, but functionally it should not make any difference with telescopic ones better suiting our riding conditions. Yamaha India has also chosen black coloured alloy wheels with a design that is simpler as compared to the red finished alloy wheels on the global model. The R15 swing arm too will take a miss and a regular box type swing arm can be seen on the photographs that have surfaced recently.
The MT-15 will get the same single cylinder 155 cc liquid cooled VVA engine as the R15 V3.0. This engine will make 19 BHP and 14.7 Nm and will be pared to a 6-speed gearbox. There will be 282 mm and 220 mm front and rear disc brakes with standard dual-channel ABS. There will also be 100/80 section and 140/70 front and rear section tyres and a 1335 mm wheelbase. The prices could start from anywhere around INR 1.20 lakhs. ABS will definitely be a standard fitment as well. In order to keep the prices competitive Yamaha could drop the slipper clutch as well, which technically is not needed on a street naked machine of this capacity.
