The Yamaha R9 completes the Supersport range for Yamaha, offering a step-up progression from entry-level models like the R125 and A2-category R3, to the middleweight R7, with the R9 positioned as a road-going option. This generation of Supersport motorcycles inherits Yamaha’s racing DNA, incorporating both design cues and advanced race-developed technologies.

Yamaha R9 Engine & Performance
At the heart of the R9 is Yamaha’s renowned 890cc, three-cylinder CP3 engine, known for its high torque and power delivery. With a compression ratio of 11.5:1, it provides a perfect balance of performance for both track and road use. The Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) ensures precision control, and the final drive ratio, ignition timing, and fuel mapping have all been optimized for Supersport riding. Alongside its distinct triple-cylinder sound, the engine’s power is amplified to deliver thrilling performance and emotion.
Yamaha R9 Frame & Chassis
The R9’s aluminium Deltabox-style frame is its lightest ever, weighing just 9.7kg, and is designed for optimal torsional, longitudinal, and lateral rigidity. This balance between stiffness and flex provides excellent feedback and comfort. Combined with a narrow sub-frame, the R9’s wet weight is just 195kg, resulting in excellent agility. Additionally, wind tunnel testing has helped fine-tune its aerodynamics, reducing drag and improving high-speed stability, making it Yamaha’s most aerodynamically efficient model to date.
Yamaha R9 Suspension
Suspension-wise, the KYB 43mm inverted front forks are fully adjustable, with individual settings for rebound and compression damping, while the rear shock is also adjustable for preload and damping. These components have been designed to offer stability, precision, and enhanced feedback, whether on the track or on the road.

Yamaha R9 Braking System
A Brembo braking system further enhances performance with lightweight Stylema calipers and a radial master cylinder, ensuring greater control and cooling efficiency under hard braking.
Yamaha R9 Riding Position & Comfort
Designed with sporty comfort in mind, the R9 features clip-on handlebars below the triple-clamp for a forward-leaning position without being overly aggressive. The riding position has been fine-tuned to accommodate a wide range of rider sizes, providing greater comfort for both track days and spirited road rides. The fuel tank holds 14 liters, offering a balance between cruising range and rider comfort, with a shape designed to allow optimal grip during cornering.
Yamaha R9 Technology & Electronics
The R9 is packed with cutting-edge electronics derived from the Yamaha R1, featuring a six-axis IMU for real-time measurements that control systems like Traction Control (TCS), Slide Control (SCS), Lift Control (LIF), and Brake Control (BC). It also includes Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) modes: ‘Sport’, ‘Street’, ‘Rain’, and customizable track modes. The system supports Launch Control and a third-generation Quick Shift System (QSS) for smooth clutchless upshifts and downshifts. The full-color 5-inch TFT display provides all essential information and smartphone connectivity through Yamaha’s MyRide app for navigation, notifications, and bike settings.
Yamaha R9 Advanced Features
Convenience features such as cruise control, a speed limiter, and smartphone connectivity elevate the R9’s usability, especially for longer rides. The bike also integrates Y-TRAC, an app offering lap and riding data for those looking to improve their track performance.
Yamaha R9 Customization Options
The R9 can be customized with Yamaha Genuine Accessories, including a smoke windscreen, tank grip set, license plate holder, GB Racing crankcase protector, and Akrapovič full exhaust system for added performance and style.
