BMW F 450 GS – Distinctive BMW GS Design

“The BMW Concept F 450 GS reflects the unmistakable DNA of the GS family,” says Alexander Buckan, Head of BMW Motorrad Design. “We succeeded in giving the Concept the sporty, dynamic appeal of our large off-road icon while keeping the design compact.” Mirroring the Trophy version of the BMW R 1300 GS, the color palette of blue, white, and red over a Racing Blue metallic base signals both high performance and a dynamic, off-road-oriented character.

BMW F 450 GS – All-New Twin-Cylinder Engine

The BMW Concept F 450 GS is technically advanced, powered by a newly developed twin-cylinder inline engine. Unique in the A2 class, the engine boasts a special ignition offset for a responsive, character-rich performance. Delivering a full 48 hp, it maintains strong torque even at lower revs. This engine is exceptionally compact, lightweight, and made from innovative materials like magnesium, optimizing the displacement-to-power ratio.

On the chassis side, the BMW Concept F 450 GS introduces high-grade technology to the segment. According to Marc Weber, the lead engineer, “We had a blank slate to develop this vehicle, aiming for outstanding off-road capability alongside nimble, precise on-road handling. Accordingly, the Concept F 450 GS includes a fully adjustable upside-down fork and a load-dependent damping shock absorber, integrating technology from rally and enduro sports.” The focus on lightweight construction and advanced engineering brings this model close to the A2 class’s minimum weight of 175 kg.

BMW F 450 GS – Safety and Comfort Enhancements

Drawing inspiration from the larger BMW R 1300 GS, the Concept F 450 GS is also designed with high safety and functionality standards for its class. Features include BMW Motorrad ABS Pro (lean-angle dependent), high-performance brakes, and configurable riding modes. With a 6.5-inch TFT display and BMW Connectivity, riders can connect their motorcycle, smartphone, and additional accessories for a seamless experience.

BMW F 450 GS – A Look Toward Production

The potential production version of the BMW Concept F 450 GS could stay closely aligned with the current design. Project Manager Johann Simon notes, “We’ll maintain the Concept F 450 GS’s sporty off-road focus, making only slight adjustments, such as lowering the seat height for accessibility. Lightweight, high-strength cast aluminum wheels in the same 19-inch front and 17-inch rear dimensions are also being considered as an alternative to the cross-spoke wheels.”

BMW Motorrad anticipates introducing the production model in the style of the Concept F 450 GS in 2025, paving the way for a new, accessible adventure option in the GS lineup.
