In a lot of ways our friends at Indonesia are very lucky when it comes to new bikes, especially the hot and happening ones. While they drool over our closeness to the various Pulsar models coming up, they get access to smaller Kawasaki‘s, the Yamaha R25 and now what looks to be the naked version of the R25. Going by the naming convention in Yamaha this bike will mostly be called the MT 25 and has the same design language as that on the MT 07 and the smaller MT 125. From this new photograph it is quite clear that we have a new quarter litre MT bike from Yamaha. The guys at Iwanbanaran who clicked it are pretty confident that the engine housed is that of the R25. The bike looks muscular and beefy from this angle. Other details visible are the rear disc, split seats, large 140 section tyres, a big strong looking swing arm, normal telescopic forks at front, regular handlebars, LED brake lights and of course the small bikini fairing that houses the headlight. Quite clearly the MT 25 here has the same frame and swingarm as that of the R25 we have seen so much of earlier.
This is the second time the bike has been spotted testing in the last year and surely it has to be ready for launch soon. The sad news for us in India though is that we are still debating on which bike we will get, the R25 or the R3 and most importantly when. The R25 engine produces 36 PS at 12,000 RPM and 22.6 Nm of torque at 10,000 RPM. The R3 engine produces 42 PS at 12,750 RPM and 29.6 Nm of torque at 9,000 RPM. Clearly the R3 being the favourite here. Again we come back to the what about us in India. For sure this naked bike from Yamaha will come to India. But will we get the MT 25 or the MT 03 and again when? Yamaha India – the wait is almost painful now!
