The wait is finally over. The Yamaha YZF-R3 price has been announced at the launch event that took place at the Buddh International Circuit as INR 3,25,000/- ex-showroom New Delhi. That should work out to an on-road price of under 4 lakhs in most cities. The Yamaha YZF-R3 will be available only in two colour options, Racing Blue and Black Lightning. The bike will be available across India through specially selected dealerships which will be plenty in number. The launch event which saw top Yamaha officials – Mr. Masaki Asano, MD, Yamaha India Sales and Mr. Roy Kurian, VP, Sales, Yamaha India Sales also had bollywood actor John Abraham do the unveiling and ride the bike in onstage.
The Yamaha YZF-R3 uses a steel diamond frame in contrast to the perimeter frame used on the R15, reason being cost cutting. But from what we have seen over the years, technically the diamond frame is a better handler with the only downside being that it is a bit heavier. The chassis houses a fuel injected 321 cc 2-cylinder engine that produces 42 PS of power at 10,750 RPM and 29.6 Nm of torque at 9,000 RPM. With an overall weight of 169 kgs, the motorcycle is definitely light and easy to handle. Braking duty is done by a double piston calliper at front with a 298 mm single disc. The rear as usual has a single piston calliper with a 220 mm disc. Tyres are 110/70 section (MRF Zapper FY) ones at the front and 140/70 section (MRF Zapper S) ones at the rear. Fuel tank capacity of the Yamaha YZF-R3 is at 14 litres, which is a slight disappointment considering the fact that it is basically a sports tourer. The meters upfront is all digital except for the analog tachometer and shows a lots of information ranging from speed, odometer, fuel gauge, trip meter, fuel consumption rate/range and even a clock. The twin headlights house 55W headlights with low beam always being on. What would be an really interesting number for many people in this part of the world is the seat height number of 780 mm. A rather low number that enables riders of pretty much all heights to be comfortable on the bike. We will have the first ride report on the Yamaha YZF-R3 coming up shortly till then we leave you with images from the launch and a quick video.
