In a bid to strengthen its presence in the commuter segment in India, Yamaha has brought in a fresh product to the market. This new product is called the Yamaha Saluto RX and it is a 110cc motorcycle targeted at young urban commuters. The motorcycle has been specifically designed keeping the demands of Indian buyers and conditions in mind. That is why it tries to offer the right mix of style, practicality, performance and fuel efficiency while keeping the price very affordable.
The Yamaha Saluto RX is powered by a 110cc engine that generates a peak power of 7.5 PS and peak torque of 8.5 Nm. As you would expect on a motorcycle of this segment, it is a 2 valve SOHC engine. The motorcycle engine follows Yamahas Blue Core Engine Development concept which according to them increases combustion efficiency, thereby improving power fuel efficiency and increased cooling efficiency resulting in longevity.
The price tag of Rs. 46,400 (ex-showroom Delhi) is certainly competitive and it will go against the likes of commuter friendly offerings from Bajaj, Hero, Honda and Mahindra Two wheelers. For the Yamaha Saluto RX, the company claims a fuel efficiency figure of 82 kmpl under standard testing conditions. It is also significantly lighter than all its competition at 98 kgs. This reduction in weight will make the motorcycle more manageable while also helping with the efficiency and performance.
Mr. Masaki Asano, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor India Sales highlighted the fact that India is the largest two wheeler market and with the product targeted toward young India, the brand indicates its commitment to the market.
The manufacturer was missing a product in this segment since the Alba and Crux went out of production and the Yamaha Saluto RX will fill in the spot. The brand already has a strong sales and service network in place and if the motorcycle hits the right chords with buyers in Tier 3 cities and rural areas, it could be a huge success.
