The 2020 Benelli 302R has been launched in the Chinese market. The new motorcycle has received updates to reduce the amount of emissions it produces, thereby making it BS6 and Euro 5 compliant. As a follow-up to this, the updated Benelli 302R is expected to be launched in the Indian market.
Benelli has in recent times become extremely aggressive when it comes to updating existing products and developing new products. We have seen several spy shots of upcoming motorcycles being tested and a couple of them were even revealed fully through its rebadged cousin in China. Among the motorcycles spotted was the Benelli 302R.
The 302R is the smallest full-faired motorcycle made by Benelli. It didn’t really find many takers in the Indian market thanks to its high price tag and stiff competition in the segment. However, those who bought the motorcycle loved it.
Other than the Kawasaki NInja 400 and Yamaha YZF-R3, the Benelli 302R is the only other motorcycle in the segment with a twin-cylinder engine. It also came with a raspy exhaust note that was capable enough of tricking people into believing that it had more than two cylinders. It also came with premium features and twin-discs at the front.
Well, Benelli has retained the same basic package even with the new model. It looks the same and has the same features. However, Benelli has introduced new colour schemes with the new motorcycle. The 2020 Benelli 302R is available in Red, White Green, and Blue.
The frame is painted in different colours for each of the above in order to provide a contrasting look. The Green-coloured bike comes with a Silver-coloured frame while the Red-coloured bike comes with a Red frame. The Blue and White colours come with a Green-coloured frame.
This new contrasting frame has made the motorcycle look better than ever before. The only major changes on the bike when compared to the previous model have been made to the engine and exhaust system.
The updated Benelli 302R is powered by the same liquid-cooled, 300cc, parallel-twin engine as the older model was. However, it now has a maximum power output of 35.3bhp and a peak torque output of 27Nm. This is nearly 3bhp lower and 0.5Nm more than the previous model which came with 38.26bhp and 26.5Nm output figures.
The new motorcycle has also become heavier, which is quite a surprise because the previous model was heavy in itself. While the older model weighed in at 198 kilograms, the new one at 204 kilograms has gained six kilograms. This is courtesy of a new catalytic converter and other bits in the exhaust system needed to get it to comply with stricter emissions norms.
In China, the motorcycle costs 32,800 Yuan (Rs 3.53 lakh). It should be priced a bit lower in India. The new Benelli 302R is expected to be launched in India soon. It will go against the likes of the TVS Apache RR 310, KTM RC390, Yamaha YZF-R3, Kawasaki Ninja 400, etc.
