KTM Duke 250 review – quick points

So, we rode the much hyped and surprising new entry the KTM Duke 250 on road for couple of days and here is our review of this new KTM. We are trying out something new here, instead of the whole multi page essay review that tend to be too long to read, we are going with points for a change and if you guys like this we will add this as one of our review formats.

Quick Review of the KTM Duke 250

• – Very refined.
• – Engine character very relatable to that of the Dominar 400.
• – 30 Ps of power at 9000 RPM and 24 Nm of torque at 7250 RPM.
• – Sounds different too, very non typical sound than what we are used to from the older Duke’s.
• – Power delivery is a bit diff, below 5k RPM bike behaves sedate.
• – Sudden surge in power post 5.5k RPM and builds speed very very quickly after that.
• – 0-100 kmph in 8.3 seconds
• – Top speed achieved: 130 kmph.
• – Dry weight: 153 kgs
• – Easy cruising at 100 kmph at about 6.5K RPM.
• – Bottom end torque is low, so has resulted in rather short gearing requiring you to constantly work that gear box esp in city conditions.
• – Handles like a charm, typical KTM, very very nimble.
• – Brakes are brilliant, super sharp and progressive.
• – Front – 300 mm Disc / Rear – 230 mm Disc
• – Tyres MRF C1 and FC1 need a lot of heating up to start behaving good, this bike would be even better with something like the Metzeler’s on them.
• – WP suspensions at front is very reassuring and forgiving.
• – Both suspensions are on the stiffer side. But comfortable overall on decent roads.
• – Real world mileage around 23 km/l.
• – Seat height is tall (830 mm), so shorter riders would struggle a bit.
• – Seat itself is better (softer/wider) for both rider and pillion.
• – Headlight functionality is awesome, very good throw and road visibility in all conditions.
• – Larger 13.5 L tank is a blessing.
• – Only thing we did not like is the finish/build quality of the new side swung exhaust.
