Introducing the Enduro segment to the Indian market, this motorcycle from KTM redefines dual-sport riding with long travel suspension, 21/18-inch spoked wheels, a minimalist TFT dashboard, selectable ride modes, and switchable ABS. With real-world, off-road capability and premium features, the KTM 390 ENDURO R sets a new benchmark in its class.

Bodywork and Graphics

The KTM 390 ENDURO R features a slim, compact design made possible by a 9-liter metal fuel tank and minimal off-road-oriented fairings. This design not only narrows the bike’s profile but also protects key components and enhances rider ergonomics, particularly when standing on the pegs.

A fresh, off-road-inspired styling approach is evident in its clean, purposeful lines and in-mold graphics—staying true to KTM’s distinctive design language while offering durability and visual appeal.

Suspension and Chassis

At the heart of the chassis is a newly developed 2-piece steel trellis frame. Designed with off-road riding in mind, it features a unique steering head angle, triple clamps with 25 mm handlebar risers, optimized rigidity, and repositioned subframe mounts for improved handling and stability.

The redesigned frame also allows increased clearance for a larger 21” front wheel and radiator package. Additionally, the footpeg positioning has been optimized for better control and comfort during aggressive off-road sections.

Subframe and Swingarm

The rear subframe sports a sleek, bolt-on steel trellis design tailored for enduro riding. Its strong, lightweight structure is engineered to support a one-piece seat and long-stroke suspension while maintaining style and function.

Completing the chassis setup is a gravity die-cast swingarm, purpose-built to endure the rigors of off-road terrain.

Suspension Setup

A 43 mm open cartridge fork at the front delivers 200 mm of travel and easy 30-click adjustability for compression and rebound. At the rear, the KTM 390 ENDURO R is fitted with a WP APEX off-center monoshock, offering 205 mm of travel, 20-click rebound adjustability, and 10-step preload adjustment.

Wheels and Tires

Built for serious dirt work, the bike comes equipped with 21” front and 18” rear spoked wheels, shod in knobby tires measuring 90/90R21 and 140/80R18. This setup ensures optimal grip and durability in off-road conditions.

Brakes

Braking duties are handled by a 285 mm Bybre axial caliper setup at the front and a 240 mm single-piston unit at the rear. Whether on tarmac or trails, these brakes offer reliable and controlled stopping power.

Powerplant

Powering the KTM 390 ENDURO R is a next-gen 399cc single-cylinder LC4c engine, first seen in the latest KTM DUKE lineup. Lighter, more compact, and BS6-compliant, the engine features optimized cylinder heads and gearboxes for smoother performance.

The revised platform also brings extended service intervals, with the first service due at 1,000 km and regular intervals at every 7,500 km thereafter.

Engine Enhancements

The engine’s redesigned cylinder head includes a larger valve cover and a repositioned thermostat integrated directly into the head. This results in more stable operating temperatures and better weight distribution.

The fuel injection system benefits from new injectors that spray directly into the inlet valves, improving combustion efficiency and reducing emissions.

A re-engineered airbox raises the engine’s position, boosting ground clearance and creating a more aggressive rider triangle suited for off-road control.

Exhaust System

The lightweight, stainless steel exhaust system eliminates the need for a separate end muffler, trimming 2 kilograms from the bike’s overall weight. It features a double catalyzer and an ECU-controlled active combustion system that optimizes emissions and performance.

The ECU also handles misfire detection and diagnostics via OBDII for improved reliability.

Gearbox and Clutch

Gear shifting has been refined with updated shift forks and drum designs, resulting in smoother transitions—especially between 5th and 6th gear. A shorter shift lever travel ensures quicker engagement.

A Power Assisted Slipper Clutch (PASC) now comes standard, offering improved clutch modulation and reduced lever effort. An optional Quickshifter+ further enhances performance for those looking for lightning-fast gear changes.

Technology Features

New Dashboard

A 4.2” bonded-glass TFT display is at the heart of the KTM 390 ENDURO R’s cockpit. With anti-glare coating and a dedicated UI, it ensures clear visibility in all lighting conditions. A USB-C port comes standard for added convenience.

Redesigned Switchgear

New switch cubes feature illuminated buttons and a 4-way joystick for intuitive control of ride modes, indicators, lighting, and connectivity. An integrated ABS-off switch is also included for quick off-road adjustments.

Connectivity

A built-in connectivity unit pairs the motorcycle with the rider’s smartphone via Bluetooth, offering access to music, navigation, and call features directly through the TFT display.

Ride Modes

Selectable ride modes include OFF-ROAD MODE, which allows controlled rear-wheel slip for maneuvering over obstacles or sliding through corners. The default STREET MODE is optimized for urban and highway use.

For riders who prefer complete control off-road, Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC) can be fully deactivated.

LED Lighting

Full LED lighting ensures excellent visibility in all conditions, with a headlamp designed to illuminate even the darkest trails.
