A ‘Royal Enfield Bullet Trials’ versions seem to be in the works as these models have been spotted testing on Indian roads. Earlier we expected them to be RE Scramblers but latest images confirm the Trials DNA. It seems that the Royal Enfield Bullet Trials draws inspiration heavily from the trial bikes of the company that were released sometime in the 1950s. Contemporary trial bikes are usually slim and lightweight although this was not so back in the 1950s and 1960s. HNP 331 or the Royal Enfield 350 cc Bullet trials was a winner of more than 50 championships. The upcoming models could be launched in Bullet Trials 350 and Bullet Trials 500 variants.
The Trials models will be quite similar to the Bullet 350 and 500 in terms of design. The stance, side panels and tank will be the same as the Classic/Bullet. However, there will be narrower and shorter rear and front fenders along with taller handlebars with cross braces like the Interceptor 650. There could be the same turn indicators and tail lights as the Royal Enfield 650 Twins as well.
The leaked images have olive green or bright red as the colours for the fender-stays, sub-frame, swing-arm, frame and also the main stand. The bikes get big off-road biased tyres and the rear seat may be replaced by luggage racks. However, it may also have a mount for pillion seats. There will be the up-swept exhaust muffler in sync with the overall Trials design theme. The suspension could be tuned for off-road but will most likely remain the same as the other models.
The new Trials variants are likely to get the same gearboxes and engines as the regular Bullet line-up. The 346 cc engine in the Bullet 350 dishes out 19.8 HP and 28 Nm of peak torque while the 499 cc engine in the Bullet 500 makes 27.2 HP and 41.3 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are paired to five speed gearboxes. A similar motorcycle inspired by the Trials models was launched in the year 2009 in the UK market. This was based on the Electra and was also retailed in the Indian market.
