KTM Duke 790 has to be one of the most anticipated bikes of the year. We totally lost it ever since we watched its prototype video. It was utter madness. The Duke 790, also known as the Scalpel in other countries, has recently been spotted in Bangalore and questions regarding its launch and price started popping up instantly. So, is the Duke 790’s launch just a few days away?
As per our colleagues at Car and Bike, KTM is going to launch the Duke 790 in India on 5th September! There’s no official statement from the Austrian firm but reports say they can confirm this date. We hope nothing but it to be true! And about the price, it’s expected to fall somewhere in the Rs 8-9 lakh range.
KTM is known for making pure hooligan machines and the Duke 790 is no less. It’s powered by a 799cc parallel-twin that spits out 105bhp and generates 86Nm. Combine these figures with the 189kg weight of the bike and you’ve got yourself a loose maniac. To control it down, KTM has added various electronics like a six-axis IMU-based 9-level traction control with lean-angle sensitivity, cornering ABS with Supermoto mode, engine brake control, launch and wheelie control, bi-directional quick-shifter.
When launched, the Duke 790 will give a tough competition to Yamaha MT-09, Triumph Street Triple RS, Ducati Monster 821, Kawasaki Z900, Suzuki GSX-R750, etc. It will be brought down into the country via the CKD route and will be assembled at Bajaj-KTM’s facility in Chakan, Maharashtra.
