Bajaj Auto has started producing motorcycles at its new plant in Colombia. Located at La Tebaida, Quindio, Colombia, the plant has been formed in association with UMA and will assemble motorcycles that will be imported as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units.
Bajaj has been making brilliant motorcycles for a while now and has been exporting them as well. In fact, the Colombian market is one of the largest for Bajaj and the Indian brand sells lots of motorcycles there. The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 is one of the most-loved motorcycles in the Colombian market.
In September 2020, Bajaj entered a partnership with Colombia-based Grupo UMA. According to the partnership, UMA Group would take care of sales, service, and distribution of Bajaj two-wheelers in Colombia. Now, Bajaj Auto, in association with Grupo UMA has set up an assembly unit in the country, and Production of motorcycles at the new plant has already begun.
The plant will take care of the assembly of the Bajaj Dominar, Pulsar, Boxer, Platina, and Discover motorcycles for the Colombian market. More models are expected to be added at a later stage. Two assembly lines will be operational at the plant. One will be for high-performance models while the other will be for more mainstream models.
In the coming future, Bajaj might use this very plant to export motorcycles to other South American countries where it doesn’t have an assembly plant. Bajaj is currently developing a slew of new products like the recently spied Pulsar 250, which are also expected to be launched in international markets.
