Piaggio is working on an expansion of its product line-up in India and is reportedly readying a brand new maxi scooter. This 160 cc maxi scooter which is currently being developed may launch soon in the Aprilia line-up as early as 2020. This indicates that the new scooter may be shown at the 2020 Auto Expo. The Suzuki Burgman Street’s success in the Indian market may have prompted Piaggio to launch a new maxi scooter with the Aprilia brand name and this has reportedly been conceptualised in Italy with inputs having been received from engineers in India as well.

The Piaggio MP3 line-up will offer design inspiration with the new scooter slated to have a twin-pod apron mounted headlamp and a tall windscreen along with a uniquely tailored footboard. There may also be a step-up saddle design for added cushioning and ample underseat storage. There could also be 14 inch alloy wheels, telescopic front forks and an adjustable rear single-sided spring for shock absorption.

The new maxi scooter may get a single cylinder 155 cc air cooled mill which will adhere to BS-VI emission regulations. In the Aprilia SR150, this engine makes 10.25 BHP and 11.4 Nm and same figures are expected on the new machine. It will be slotted as a premium offering, with prices expected around the 1 lakh ex-showroom mark.
