Aprilia might be developing a new supersport motorcycle to slot in the 300-400cc segment. This new motorcycle will bridge the gap between the Aprilia RS125 and the upcoming Aprilia RS 660, thereby giving the Italian brand a more widespread reach across several segments.

Aprilia is one of the premium motorcycle manufacturers that is well-known for developing emotive and engaging motorcycles. At the top of Aprilia’s motorcycle line-up is the Aprilia RSV4 and Tuono V4. At the bottom-end of Aprilia’s product portfolio are scooters like the SR125, SR150 and motorcycles like the RS 125.
Aprilia had even showcased an RS 150 at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo, but there are no signs of it going into production anytime soon. However, there is a huge gap in the product lineup from the RS 125 to the flagship RSV4 as there are no other supersport motorcycles currently sold by Aprilia. This will soon change, as Aprilia is all set to launch the RS 660.
Now though, we’ve got some more exciting news. Diego Graffi, the MD of Piaggio India, the parent company of Aprilia recently revealed that the brand is looking at the development of a new Aprilia supersport model that would slot in the 300-400cc segment.

The 300-400cc segment is the fastest-growing motorcycle segment in the world and all motorcycle manufacturers want a slice of it. KTM sells the 390 Duke and RC 390, Kawasaki retails the Ninja 400 and Yamaha makes the YZF-R3 and MT-03 and all of these motorcycles are selling in decent numbers.
Well, adding an Aprilia motorcycle to the list just makes this segment so much more interesting. We do not know what the motorcycle will be called yet. Will it be an Aprilia RS 300 or RS 400? Only time will tell. What we do know is that, the 300-400cc segment just got better, even though the motorcycle only exists in media reports for now.
We expect a sharp and aggressive design based on the design of the RS660. We also expect it to have an output of around 45bhp. What makes it even more interesting is the fact that Aprilia will develop a Tuono 300 or 400 as well, making for a more complete lineup.

The pandemic and its effect on the world has already resulted in a delay in the launch of the RS660 as well as the development of the Tuono 660. Considering this, we expect development of the new 300-400cc motorcycle to take a lot longer. We hope to see the pre-production model at the 2021 EICMA motorcycle show.
