KTM recently held the selection round for India’s largest racing championship, the KTM RC Cup, at Meco Kartopia in Bengaluru. We also got chance to ride these bikes for a short stint. The RC Cup is part of KTM Pro-XP’s mission to provide KTM owners with experiences that transform them into professional riders. KTM has an illustrious 70-year history in motorsports, having won over 334 world championship titles across various racing formats such as Dakar, MotoGP, Motocross (MX), Supercross (SX), and Enduro.
The registration for the Bangalore championship was enthusiastically received, with over 150 racers competing to finish the race on the ‘Ready to Race’ KTM RC 390 GP. The top 10 fastest lap times from Bangalore, namely Rohit Lad, Abhishek V, Anish Shetty, Ashwin R, Varun Patil, Lani Zena Fernandez, Pradeep C, Hari, Mohammad Junaid Akhtar, and Lokesh V, were selected for the Qualifier round. The next selection round of the RC Cup will be held in Coimbatore this weekend (4-5 March 2023), followed by Chennai in the upcoming weekend.
The KTM RC Cup follows a three-stage process, starting with Selections that involve a Race Academy and Selections held in different cities such as Coimbatore and Chennai. The next stage is the Qualifiers, where the top 10 racers from each of the eight cities will compete in Chennai. The final stage is the Finale, where the winners from the Qualifiers will race to determine the top three racers. The top three winners will earn a trip to the KTM global HQ in Austria, which includes training with the Race Director, interaction with KTM factory racing athletes, watching a live MotoGPTM race at the Red Bull ring, and visiting the KTM Motohall. The KTM RC CUP’s Race Director is Jeremy McWilliams, an ex-MotoGP racer with two podium finishes in the 500cc class and a win in the 250cc class, and the Race expert is Emmanuel Jebaraj, a seven-time National INMRC Champion and founder of Gusto Racing in India.
