Unlike previous years where the standard models launched side-by-side with the Pro variants, the base iPhone 18 is expected to debut early next year. Apple is tipped to unveil the device during a spring event, most likely in March or April 2027 right after Samsung’s mega event. Despite sitting below the Pro range, the iPhone 18 is set to receive several notable hardware updates taking to closer to the Pro of the prevous year:
- Display & Design: Tipped to feature a 6.3-inch display paired with a smaller Dynamic Island cutout, according to details shared by tipster Ice Universe via MacRumors.
- Processor: Expected to run on an A20 processor built on TSMC’s advanced 2nm fabrication process. Moving from the 3nm A19 chip should yield noticeable performance and efficiency gains by integrating the CPU, GPU, RAM, and Neural Engine onto the same wafer module.
- RAM & Storage Considerations: Speculation suggests the device will feature either 9GB or 12GB of RAM. While extra RAM would help support on-device AI features, industry reports note Apple might adjust certain specs—such as offering one fewer GPU core or using shared components with the iPhone 18e—to navigate current RAM and component shortages.
- Camera Upgrades: The front-facing Center Stage camera is set for a bump from 18MP up to 24MP. Meanwhile, the Camera Control button is expected to rely purely on pressure sensitivity rather than capacitive sensing.
- Connectivity: The handset could incorporate Apple’s custom in-house C2 modem in select regions, supporting high-speed mm Wave 5G.

Following recent price increases across the iPhone 17 and iPhone 18 Pro series in India, the upcoming base model is expected to command a higher starting price than its predecessors.
