How Custom AI App Building Works on Google Play
- No Developer Account Needed: Users can create custom Android apps using Google AI Studio and run them via Google Play using just a standard Google account, without registering for a developer profile.
- Privacy and Distribution: These personal apps remain strictly private and will not appear in the public Google Play Store catalog.
- Sharing Features: Google plans to allow users to share these custom apps with a close circle of family and friends in the coming months.
- Publishing to Public Catalogue: If a user chooses to make their creation public for everyone, they will need to upgrade to a professional developer account, after which the app will undergo standard Play Store Trust & Safety reviews.
- Regional Rollout: The capability is rolling out starting today in select markets, including the US, for users aged 18 and above. Google has not confirmed yet whether India is included in this initial phase.
