HP has brought its latest mobile workstation, the ZBook Ultra G3a, to the Indian market. A massive 300-billion parameter language model on a portable laptop might sound like a stretch, HP claims this machine is built to handle exactly that. Packed with high-end hardware, the workstation manages to fit its high-performance specs into a sleek 17.9 mm chassis that weighs around 1.9 kg.
The laptop can be configured with up to 192GB of unified memory, out of which up to 160GB can be dedicated as VRAM. It is driven by the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO processor paired with a dedicated 55 TOPS NPU to accelerate AI tasks on the go.
Configuration Caveats and Thermal Performance
- Top-End Specifications: HP notes that headline figures—such as the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 chip and 192GB memory—apply to the maxed-out configuration. Base or mid-range variants will offer lower memory capacities, meaning these numbers represent the maximum limits of the machine rather than standard specs across all trims.
- Upgraded Thermal Setup: To handle heavy workloads, HP has redesigned the cooling system, enabling the laptop to draw up to 100W of power. This represents an 81.8% increase in maximum power delivery compared to the 55W limit on the older ZBook Ultra G1a model.
Display, Hardware Features, and IT Servicing
- Display Options: Features a 16-inch 2.8K OLED display. An optional 120Hz refresh rate panel is available at the time of purchase.
- Battery & Charging: Houses a 96Wh battery claiming up to 14 hours of run time under ideal test conditions. Buyers can select between 140W or 180W GaN USB-C fast chargers.
- Business & Enterprise Upgrades: Built for enterprise fleets, it includes an easily replaceable keyboard for IT teams and robust security via HP Wolf Security. Optional 5G cellular connectivity can also be configured in.

Pricing and Market Availability
The HP ZBook Ultra G3a 16-inch starts at Rs 2,89,990 (excluding taxes). HP is selling the mobile workstation exclusively through its commercial channel partners, targeting enterprise clients, researchers, and business customers rather than standard retail buyers.
“The HP ZBook Ultra G3a coming to India shows how fast the demand for localized AI computing is growing among tech enterprises, research hubs, and startups here. Being able to run 300B parameter models locally on a thin-and-light laptop without needing constant cloud server connectivity is a game-changer for data privacy and developer speed. Even at a steep commercial price tag, which I think companies can easily afford, it sets a serious benchmark for mobile workstations in the Indian market.”
