BMW has officially unveiled the all-new BMW 3 Series. The latest generation showcases a brand-new design, fresh digital tech, and a tech-open powertrain lineup. Leading the charge is the first fully electric 3 Series built on the Neue Klasse platform—the BMW i3—alongside petrol engines with 48V mild hybrid assistance, a high-performance M Performance model, and an upcoming plug-in hybrid.
Modern Neue Klasse Exterior Design
The new BMW 3 Series adopts the striking Neue Klasse design language across all variants, maintaining a classic 2.5-box silhouette with short overhangs and a lengthened wheelbase. The fully electric BMW i3 and its combustion-engine (ICE) siblings share almost identical styling, varying only in drive-system details, which is a huge welcome from usually the electric siblings looking like toy replicas.
- Front End: The iconic BMW kidney grille and twin headlights merge into a unified, single light unit. M Performance models gain new M Yellow Lights derived from motorsport.
- Body Features: Flush-fitting door handles deploy automatically upon unlocking, while a low character line lowers the visual centre of gravity. Prominently flared wheel arches accentuate a wide, athletic rear stance.
- Wheels and Paint: The all-electric BMW i3 offers alloy wheels ranging from 19 to 21 inches, while petrol models offer 18 to 20-inch wheels. Customers can opt for M Sport or M Sport Pro packages, as well as an exclusive M Le Castellet Blue metallic paint, with further BMW Individual finishes arriving in 2027.
Cabin Architecture and Panoramic iDrive
Inside, the cabin takes a minimalist approach centered around the new BMW Panoramic iDrive system running on BMW Operating System X (built on the Android Open Source Project). The digital user experience is split across four core components:
- BMW Panoramic Vision: Projects key driving data across the base of the windscreen in the driver’s line of sight.
- Central Display: A 17.9-inch touchscreen angled towards the driver.
- BMW 3D Head-Up Display: Optional display projecting driving details directly into the view ahead.
- Multifunction Steering Wheel: Redesigned with a central spoke in the upper section. M steering and BMW Individual steering wheels are also available.

The interior offers four distinct material and colour trims, electric adjustment and memory functions on standard seats, and an optional large panoramic sunroof with climate comfort glazing. Harman Kardon hi-fi or surround sound systems are available as optional upgrades over the standard hi-fi.
Software capability is expanded via Amazon Alexa+ AI integration for natural voice commands, regular over-the-air updates, and an optional BMW Digital Premium package featuring Security Assistant and extended BMW Maps navigation.
Fully Electric BMW i3 Variants
The electric BMW i3 debuting under the Neue Klasse umbrella uses sixth-generation (Gen6) BMW eDrive technology, incorporating 800V architecture, cylindrical battery cells, bidirectional charging capability, and dual electric motors (one per axle).
- BMW i3 50 xDrive: Delivers 345 kW (469 hp) and 645 Nm of torque, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds. Powered by a 108.7 kWh battery, it achieves an estimated range of up to 912 km (567 miles) on the WLTP cycle. With DC fast charging speeds up to 400 kW, it can gain 423 km (263 miles) of range in 10 minutes.
- BMW i3 40 xDrive: Produces 275 kW (374 hp) using an 82.8 kWh battery, offering up to 710 km (441 miles) of WLTP range.
- BMW i3 M60 xDrive: A high-performance electric variant set for arrival in 2027.
Dynamic control in the electric i3 is managed by the new “Heart of Joy” domain computer. Operating ten times faster than previous control units, it combines powertrain and chassis dynamics into a single module.

Combustion Engines: BMW M350 xDrive & Four-Cylinders
For drivers preferring traditional powertrains, BMW is offering updated TwinPower Turbo petrol engines equipped with 48V mild hybrid technology featuring a crankshaft-driven starter generator.
- BMW M350 xDrive: Serving as the flagship petrol model, it packs a 3.0-litre straight-six engine producing 326 kW (443 hp). It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and reaches an electronically capped top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
- Drift Mode: The M350 xDrive debuts a new Drift Moment feature accessible via the Central Display, allowing power to be routed exclusively to the rear wheels. Adaptive M suspension comes standard.
- Four-Cylinder Petrols & PHEV: Two 4-cylinder petrol options are available at launch, with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant scheduled to join the lineup next year.
Driver Assistance and Safety Features
The new 3 Series incorporates SAE Level 2 driver assistance systems. Highlights include BMW Symbiotic Drive for smooth human-machine cooperation, Motorway Assistant enabling hands-free driving up to 130 km/h (81 mph) in 21 countries, and planned urban partially automated navigation functions arriving in 2027.
