WhatsApp Message Scheduling Rollout Starts on Android: Step-by-Step Guide and Key Features

WhatsApp is finally bringing one of its most anticipated tools—Message Scheduling—to Android users. Meta has started rolling out the feature in its latest Android beta release, allowing people to set up messages, links, and media to be delivered automatically at a later time.

Spotted first by WABetaInfo, the feature is currently live for select users on WhatsApp beta version 2.26.40.7. The scheduling tool supports plain texts, links, documents, as well as individual photos and videos.

How WhatsApp Message Scheduling Works

  • Delivery Timeframe: Users can queue up a message to be dispatched anywhere between 10 minutes to two full weeks in advance.
  • Backend Processing: WhatsApp handles scheduled deliveries on its backend servers, meaning your phone does not need to stay connected to the internet when the scheduled time arrives.
  • Group Chat Dynamics: In group conversations, scheduled messages are delivered only to members who were part of the group at the moment the message was set. This prevents new group members from receiving delayed messages without context.
  • Managing Scheduled Messages: A dedicated section has been added inside the Chat Info screen where users can view, edit, or delete their pending scheduled drafts before they go out.

Step-by-Step Guide to Schedule a Message on WhatsApp

  1. Open any individual or group chat inside WhatsApp.
  2. Type out your text message and attach any required photos, videos, or documents.
  3. Long-press (press and hold) the send button to open a new bottom sheet menu.
  4. Pick your preferred delivery date and time, then confirm to lock the message into the automated delivery queue.

This update joins other recent feature rollouts on the platform, such as built-in Bill Payments for utility bills like water and electricity in India, enhanced security features, and updated system requirements that drop support for older operating systems to minimize vulnerability risks.

My thoughts

“Message scheduling on WhatsApp is a absolute game-changer for millions of Indians who practically live on the app for everything from family updates to daily business management. Whether it is sending midnight birthday wishes, setting up work reminders for colleagues during office hours, or scheduling festive greetings in advance, this built-in feature eliminates the reliance on third-party mod apps. In a country where WhatsApp is the default communication tool for every small business and household, this update brings massive everyday convenience.

However there is a side of me that questions the need for it as well. Feels as though Whatsapp will loose a bit of the genuineness and the spontaneity associated with it. What do you think?”
