Over the last couple of days photographs of a new Pulsar have reached the internet. Identified as the Pulsar 200 AS, where AS stands for Adventure sport, it was first assumed that it was unveiled in Indonesia. Fresh photographs however confirm that the bikes were in fact unveiled at the Bajaj‘s private test track at their factory in Chakan. The Pulsar 200 AS seems to have been been showcased along with the Pulsar SS400 and the Pulsar CS400 to Kawasaki and Bajaj representatives from Indonesia. Quite surprising that no Indian media was called. Could this mean that the motorcycle is only for the Indonesian market? Most certainly not, it will definitely make its way to the Indian market in the next few months.
The Puslar 200 AS that we see in the photographs is essentially the Pulsar 200 NS with a half fairing like the 220. It is not fuel injected for sure as it has the reserve-main knob on the side. So expect the engine specifications to be the same, torque of 18.3 Nm @ 8000 RPM and power of 23.2 Bhp @ 9,500 RPM. There is no change in the handle bar height and nor are there any changes to the front suspension travel. The half fairing is well integrated but the biggest highlight of this set up has to be the high wild shield up front and the projector headlight for low beam. The headlight also houses the original Pulsar trademark, the wolf eyes (pilot lights). The Pulsar 200 AS could very well be a huge step forward on the naked NS in terms of being a touring delight. Does it make it an adventure sport? Maybe not, but definitely a comfortable tourer.
