Ather Energy has pulled the wraps off the Konarc, an all-new electric scooter engineered to push electric two-wheelers straight into the Indian mainstream. Revealed at the fourth Ather Community Day in Bengaluru, the newcomer is built from the ground up on the brand’s fresh EL platform. With a clear focus on real-world durability, daily comfort, extended range, and fuss-free ownership, the Konarc aims to win over riders who have been hesitant to make the switch to electric mobility.
Variants, Pricing, and Colour Options
The Konarc lineup splits neatly across two distinct product streams: the practical S line and the more premium Z line, tallying six variants altogether.
- S Line: Four configurations delivering IDC ranges of 100 km, 125 km, 161 km, and a range-topping 200 km.
- Z Line: Two trim levels offering IDC ranges of 125 km and 161 km.
Pricing begins at ₹99,999 for the entry-level Konarc S (100 km IDC). The mid-tier Konarc S (125 km IDC) is pegged at ₹1,21,999, whilst the Konarc S (161 km IDC) costs ₹1,44,999 (all prices effective ex-showroom Bengaluru).
Riders can pick from several exterior paint finishes, including Quartz White, Lumen Copper, Celestial Gold, and Majestic Grey. Buyers opting for the top-tier Z variants also gain exclusive access to two bespoke shades: Steel Blue and Claret Red.
Rollout begins in mid-September via a phased schedule, kicking off with early deliveries of the Konarc S 125 km and Konarc S 161 km variants in select cities and states prior to a full nationwide expansion. Production will lean heavily on the manufacturing capacity and vertical integration Ather is establishing at AURIC.
Built Tough for Indian Road Realities
Ather has paid close attention to everyday riding conditions across India, equipping the scooter with robust running gear and a sturdy frame:
- Stout Underpinnings: A steel unibody chassis paired with rear metal body panels delivers improved structural strength and impact protection.
- Planted Stance: A generous 1,352 mm wheelbase—amongst the longest in the segment—works alongside a relaxed rake angle to provide high stability over long journeys.
- Wheel and Tyre Setup: The scooter rolls on a 14-inch front alloy wheel and a 12-inch rear alloy wheel, both showing off a fresh alloy wheel styling.
- Supple Suspension: Long-travel suspension at both ends absorbs broken surfaces, potholes, and ruts to keep the ride smooth and composed.
- Refined Powertrain: A new sequential gear-drive transmission provides near-silent, fluid acceleration, curbs mechanical wear, and optimises drive efficiency.
Visual flair hasn’t been overlooked. The design carries clean surfaces, dual-tone finishes across inside and outside panels, illuminated Ather branding, and animated wraparound lighting. These lamps interact dynamically with the rider during charging, locating, waking up, and locking.
Passenger comfort is bolstered by an accommodating seat, a padded grab rail, and the optional LoungeBack accessory—an adjustable backrest with integrated lumbar support.
In-House Stopping Power: AeBS
Rather than relying on off-the-shelf braking hardware, the Konarc debuts Ather’s in-house Advanced Electronic Braking System (AeBS).
Standard braking systems rely on fixed mechanical force splits between the front and rear wheels. By contrast, AeBS uses smart software and sensors alongside the Ather Drive Controller and the electric motor to continuously vary the braking force balance based on real-time road conditions.
By blending regenerative braking directly into the stopping cycle, AeBS helps shorten stopping distances, mitigates wheel lock-up, and keeps the chassis poised during sudden decelerations—all without requiring auxiliary mechanical components.
Smart Everyday Tech: MagicKey, AutoPop, and AirWalk
Ather has packed the scooter with practical features designed to take the friction out of daily runs:
- MagicKey with SmartWake: This keyless fob allows owners to wake and unlock the scooter automatically without touching the key. Konarc locks itself when the rider walks away, can unlatch the seat, and features a remote ping function operable from up to 30 metres away using light and sound. The setup is designed to prevent hassles tied to flat fob batteries or misplaced keys.
- AutoPop: Solving the problem of rummaging for storage with full hands, AutoPop fully lifts the seat into a vertical position and keeps it firmly upright so it will not drop shut. It can be triggered from several metres away via the MagicKey fob or opened via a dedicated scooter-mounted button.
- AirWalk: Manoeuvring a dead-weight scooter into cramped spots is made effortless with manual push-and-pull assistance. When the system detects physical effort, the electric motor supplies mild assistive torque in the intended direction. This feature is particularly handy when reversing out of tight parking bays or wheeling the scooter on under-inflated tyres.
Charging Convenience, Doubled Service Intervals, and a 10-Year Warranty
Keeping the scooter running is noticeably simpler thanks to revisions across the powertrain and scheduled maintenance routines:
- Combined Charging: The scooter features an onboard 450W charger integrated directly into the motor’s drive controller, meaning riders only need to carry a lightweight charging cable instead of an unwieldy external power brick. For quicker top-ups, owners can plug in an optional 450W offboard charger. Running both simultaneously unlocks 900W Combined Charging, cutting standard domestic plug-in times by up to 50%.
- Extended Service Gaps: Service intervals have doubled to 10,000 km (or once a year for the majority of users, whichever comes first). Ather has also trimmed down the number of inspection checkpoints and laid out the chassis for simpler access to routine wear-and-tear items.
- Bedrock Battery Warranty: Powering every Konarc is the fifth-generation Bedrock battery pack. It is supported by a comprehensive 10-year or 100,000 km warranty (whichever occurs earlier). The package guarantees at least a 70% state of health at the end of the term and covers defects and functional failures even during long periods of vehicle inactivity.
