Energy in Motion Ltd. (EIM) has achieved a major milestone in India’s EV landscape with the inauguration of its state-of-the-art Electric Heavy-Duty Commercial Vehicle Complex at village Ambi in Talegaon, Pune. Built to produce electric trucks, tractor-trailers, dumpers, and other heavy vehicles, this ₹500 crore facility represents the first phase of EIM’s larger ₹1,000 crore investment plan in Maharashtra.
The complex was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, along with Shri Sharadchandra Pawar, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), and Smt. Sunetra Ajit Pawar, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Facility Highlights and Manufacturing Capabilities
- Integrated Ecosystem: Combines an Electric Heavy Commercial Vehicle Assembly Facility, a Lithium-ion Battery Pack Assembly Factory, and an Independent Battery Testing Laboratory inside a single unified complex.
- Speedy Construction: The Industry 4.0-enabled site was completed in just over a year following the initial MoU signing.
- Production Capacity: Features an initial production capacity of 5,000 vehicles per shift annually.
- Job Creation: Expected to generate over 2,000 direct and indirect employment and work opportunities across vehicle assembly, design, R&D, and IT sectors.
Charging Infrastructure and Global Tech Partnerships
To complement vehicle manufacturing, EIM is rolling out nationwide battery swapping and charging hubs along major highways, industrial zones, and ports:
- Megawatt Swapping Hubs: Capable of swapping batteries for EIM vehicles and other compatible electric commercial vehicles in under 7 minutes.
- Fast-Charging Support: Equipped to fast-charge any EV fitted with a BIS-standard CCS-2 DC fast-charging socket.
To build world-class electric heavy vehicles, EIM has tied up with key global technology leaders:
- BAIC Foton Motor: A top commercial vehicle brand that recorded over 650,000 unit sales last year.
- CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited): The world’s largest battery maker holding a 39% global market share.
- Shanghai Enneagon Energy Technology Co., Limited: Specialist in robotic battery swapping systems with over 1,600 stations built globally.

Executive Insights
Narendra Murkumbi, Managing Director of EIM Ltd., credited the fast-tracked rollout to support from the Maharashtra government, host RMK Spaces, technology partners, and EIM’s manufacturing team led by Mahesh Keskar. He emphasized that the company’s focus is now firmly on expanding megawatt-scale charging and battery swapping networks to speed up India’s transition from diesel to electric heavy transport.
My Thoughts
“A dedicated electric heavy commercial vehicle complex in Talegaon is a massive leap forward for India’s clean freight transition. Heavy trucks and dumpers account for a huge share of diesel emissions on our highways, so bringing localized assembly, battery pack manufacturing, and sub-7-minute battery swapping under one roof addresses both vehicle availability and charging downtime head-on. Backed by top global tech partnerships and strong local government support, EIM is positioning itself extremely well as a leader in sustainable logistics in India.”
