The Kia Syros EV has landed itself in the headlines well before its official debut, with pretty much every detail now out in the open ahead of launch. Kia has quietly kicked off unofficial bookings for the Syros EV against a token amount of Rs 25,000, and once launched, it’ll become the second ICE-to-EV converted model in Kia India’s line-up. Just days before its expected launch, the Kia Syros EV was spotted completely undisguised, giving a proper look at how it’ll show up in the Indian market. Dealer sources reckon the Syros EV launch could happen by the end of this month, and they’ve also let slip some details on the powertrain options.
Kia Syros EV Spied: What Was Spotted?
From the outside, the Kia Syros EV looks a lot like its ICE sibling, though there are a few subtle tweaks that mark it out. Up front, the Syros EV gets a slimmer grille along with a slightly revised bumper. That said, familiar styling cues carry over, including the vertical ‘ice cube’ LED headlamps and the body-coloured triangular elements on the bumper.
In profile, the Syros EV again mirrors its ICE counterpart, keeping the thick B-pillar, the rising kink in the window line at the C-pillar, and the cladding around the wheel arches and lower door sides. One thing that is new, though, is the design of the dual-tone alloy wheels, expected to measure 17 inches. Interestingly, the test car was pictured with its front flush doors popped open, hinting that the Syros EV’s front door handles might get motorised opening.
Round the back, the biggest giveaway is the ‘EV’ badge on the tailgate. Everything else carries over from the ICE Syros, including the vertical LED tail-lamps with L-shaped signatures set higher up, and the black bumper with the same triangular design elements seen up front.
Inside, the Kia Syros EV was spotted with a cabin layout very similar to the regular Syros. The dual-tone three-spoke steering wheel makes it through unchanged, but it now comes with paddle shifters for adjusting regen braking. There’s also a dual-screen setup covering the infotainment and digital driver’s display, along with physical buttons lower down for media and HVAC functions. A dash cam and USB ports were also spotted on the test car. Other features that could be part of the package include a panoramic sunroof, a powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats and rear-seat base ventilation. Whether the Syros EV gets an ADAS suite is still up in the air, especially since it was dropped from the MY26 update on the ICE Syros.
Kia Syros EV: What Do We Know So Far?
According to dealer sources, the Kia Syros EV will share its battery packs with the Carens Clavis EV. That means a 42kWh battery pack for the standard-range version, and a bigger 51.4kWh pack for the long-range version. Dealer sources have also indicated ARAI-claimed ranges of around 420km for the 42kWh version and 520km for the 51.4kWh version. Both battery packs are expected to be paired with a front-mounted electric motor, though power output figures haven’t been revealed just yet.
On pricing, dealer sources suggest the Kia Syros EV is likely to sit in the Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) bracket. Once it does launch, the Syros EV will go up against rivals like the Tata Nexon EV and the MG Windsor.
