Mahindra has officially launched the updated 2026 version of its SUV, dubbed the Mahindra Thar OG, with prices kicking off at Rs 10.32 lakh. Sharing its entry-level starting tag with the outgoing AXT trim, this second major update in just over a year brings hefty mechanical, technological, and safety enhancements over its predecessor.
Brand-New Underpinnings and Refined Dynamics
Beneath the rugged silhouette, the 2026 Thar OG transitions to Mahindra’s M_Glyde 4G platform, an architecture borrowed from the larger Thar Roxx that delivers increased structural rigidity.
Key hardware and mechanical upgrades include:
- Pentalink Rear Suspension: Features a Watts Link setup to drastically restrict lateral rear axle movement.
- DaVinci Damping Tech: Integrates Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) for superior ride comfort and cornering stability.
- Steering & Refinement: Swaps out the old steering system for a lighter Electric Power Steering (EPS) and incorporates enhanced NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) insulation throughout the cabin.
- Off-Road Electronics: Adds an Electronic Locking Differential (ELD) on four-wheel-drive variants, alongside dedicated Terrain Modes (Mud, Sand, and Snow). Rear-wheel-drive petrol and 2.2-litre diesel models also benefit from Terrain Assist.

While retaining its core powertrain lineup, Mahindra has bumped up the power outputs across the board:
- 2.0-Litre mStallion Turbo-Petrol: Now churns out 162 hp and 330 Nm of torque (a gain of 10 hp and up to 30 Nm).
- 2.2-Litre mHawk Diesel: Now produces 152 hp and 330 Nm of torque (an increase of 18 hp and 30 Nm).
Styling Updates and Interior Upgrades
The Thar OG adopts a fresher, more modern look similar to the Thar Roxx without losing its classic boxy profile:
- Exterior Enhancements: Features a redesigned front grille with ‘Thar’ badging, LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs, LED fog lamps with integrated cornering functions, updated front and rear bumpers, a wider track, revised LED tail-lamps, and ‘OG’ badging on the tailgate.
- Wheels & Colours: Upgraded 19-inch alloy wheels make an appearance alongside two new paint shades—Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue.
- Cabin Comforts: Outfitted with new Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery, a second-row central armrest with integrated cup holders, an HD 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a colour MID, a wireless phone charger, and a push-button start system.

Safety takes a massive step forward, with six airbags (including four HPTS airbags covering head, pelvis, thorax, and shoulder areas) and four-wheel disc brakes supported by ESP 9.3 featured across the lineup.
