The newly launched XUV 3XO ZNG has achieved a full 5-star crash safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP). This achievement makes it India’s very first sub-compact CNG SUV to secure the coveted 5-star milestone.
This milestone builds directly upon the established safety credentials of the standard XUV 3XO lineup, which previously secured its own 5-star Bharat NCAP rating back in November 2024.
Detailed Crash Test Scores & Protection Ratings
The XUV 3XO ZNG underwent comprehensive crash testing under Bharat NCAP protocols, delivering exceptional protection figures for both adult and child occupants:
Autocar Professional
| Assessment Category | Score Achieved | Maximum Possible Score | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) | 29.36 points | 32.00 points | 5 Stars |
| Child Occupant Protection (COP) | 45.00 points | 49.00 points | 5 Stars |
Standard Safety Equipment & Dedicated CNG Tech
Mahindra has loaded the XUV 3XO ZNG with over 35 safety features as standard across its variant lineup, alongside dedicated safety measures tailored specifically for factory-fitted CNG operations:
- Standard Safety Features: Includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and ISOFIX child-seat mounts right from the base variant.
- Integrated Gas-Leak Detection: Features a dedicated sensor setup that constantly monitors for gas leaks. If a leak is detected, the system automatically switches the SUV from CNG to petrol mode.
Performance, Boot Space, and Efficiency Specs
First launched in October 2026 under Mahindra’s “Zero Compromise” promise, the XUV 3XO ZNG combines strong performance outputs with daily usability:
- Power & Torque: Generates 82 kW (111.4 PS) of power and 200 Nm of torque, delivering identical performance figures in both CNG and petrol modes.
- Certified Fuel Efficiency: Delivers an official ARAI-certified efficiency of 24.7 km/kg.
- Underfloor Twin-Cylinder Packaging: Features an underfloor packaging setup that maintains a completely flat loading floor while preserving 270 litres of usable boot space.
My Thoughts
“The XUV 3XO ZNG with a 5 star safety is a huge win considering its a CNG vehicle. For the longest time in the Indian car market, buying a CNG vehicle meant making compromises—either on performance, safety, or boot space. By offering twin-cylinder underfloor packaging that leaves 270 litres of usable boot space, keeping 82 kW of power and 200 Nm torque active even in CNG mode, and backing it up with auto petrol-switching gas leak tech and 5-star BNCAP safety, Mahindra has effectively eliminated all traditional CNG drawbacks.”
