Mercedes-Benz India has just expanded its PHEV portfolio with the launch of the all-new Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+. Debuting as the very first electrified AMG E-Class model for Indian customers, this luxury performance sedan pairs raw racetrack ability with everyday electric efficiency, keeping firmly in line with the brand’s ‘powertrain agnostic’ strategy.

Alongside the car’s debut, the manufacturer announced a exciting multi-year title partnership with the Indian Padel Tour for the 2026–27 season, reinforcing the growing popularity of the sport amongst new generation customers.

Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, noted that the E-Class remains India’s longest running luxury nameplate. He highlighted how the AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ underlines performance, practical usability, and electric efficiency, letting buyers choose the exact powertrain that suits their lifestyle. He added that the brand’s desirability extends to curated experiences and modern trends, which is precisely why they have teamed up with the Indian Padel Tour.

Plug-In Hybrid Performance & Specifications

At the heart of this performance sedan is a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine pushing out 330 kW (449 hp). It works alongside a 120 kW electric motor integrated directly into the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission.

Together, the setup delivers a combined system output of 430 kW (585 hp) and 750 Nm of system torque. Engage the RACE START feature, and power temporarily surges to 450 kW (612 hp).

  • 0–100 km/h: 3.8 seconds
  • Top Speed: Electronically limited to 250 km/h (can be increased to 280 km/h with the optional AMG Driver’s Package)
  • Electric-Only Top Speed: 140 km/h
  • Purely Electric Range: Over 100 km (WLTP)

The system relies on a 400-volt battery with a gross capacity of 28.6 kWh (21.2 kWh usable for everyday driving, with peak output reserved for short periods of electric boost). An 11 kW onboard AC charger comes as standard. Tucked under the boot floor, the battery charges via plug-in points, onboard charging, or regenerative braking recuperation.

AMG-Tuned Dynamics

To make sure it drives like a true AMG, the E 53 Hybrid is fitted with specially tuned AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension and standard fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. Active rear-axle steering is also standard—turning the rear wheels up to 2.5° opposite to the front wheels under 90 km/h for tighter agility, and in the same direction up to 2.5° above 90 km/h for high-speed stability.

Stopping power uses an electromechanical brake booster that seamlessly blends electrical recuperation with hydraulic braking. Drivers can flick through standard AMG DYNAMIC SELECT modes (Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Slippery, Individual) alongside two hybrid-specific settings: “Electric” and “Battery Hold”.

For enthusiasts wanting extra bite, the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package adds:

  • An electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential
  • AMG dynamic engine mounts
  • AMG high-performance composite braking system
  • AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather / MICROCUT microfibre
  • RACE START functionality

Design and Interior Styling

Visually, the AMG E 53 Hybrid makes its presence felt with an illuminated AMG-specific radiator grille, wider front wings (+11 mm on each side), and a bespoke front apron with extra cooling ducts. Side profile details feature “TURBO HYBRID” lettering, while the rear gets “E 53” badging with a red surround, a lip spoiler, an AMG rear apron with diffuser, and quad round tailpipes.

It rolls on 20-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels finished in matt black with a high-sheen rim. The exterior look is topped off by the AMG Night Package II (featuring dark chrome door handle trim strips) and Digital Light technology. Buyers can choose from six metallic paint options: Polar White, Verde Silver, Obsidian Black, Nautical Blue, Velvet Brown, and Graphite Grey.

Inside the cabin, you’ll find:

  • Electrically adjustable AMG sports seats in black ARTICO man-made leather / MICROCUT microfibre with red contrasting topstitching.
