Ultraviolette Secures $85 Million Funding

Ultraviolette, my favourite Indian electric start-up has officially secured $85 million in a fresh round of funding, paving the way for the company to expand its manufacturing setup, accelerate its international rollout, and develop its next generation of electric vehicle platforms.

The funding round was led jointly by deep tech fund Yali Capital and TDK Ventures. It also attracted significant investment from Lip-Bu Tan, Chairman of Walden International, who has joined Ultraviolette as an advisor alongside contributions from the firm’s existing, long-term investors.

Expanding Production and International Reach

The major cash injection arrives shortly after Ultraviolette revealed plans for a new manufacturing facility capable of scaling production up to 500,000 units every year.

The brand plans to use the capital to scale production for its current electric motorcycle lineup—the F77 and the X-47 Crossover—as well as two upcoming models set for launch soon:

  • Tesseract: An electric scooter slated to debut early next year.
  • Shockwave: An enduro-style electric motorcycle.

Ultraviolette currently retails its vehicles across India and 20 European nations. Looking ahead, the brand intends to deploy the fresh capital to broaden its reach into key markets across South-East Asia and Latin America, before making its planned entry into the United States market in 2027.

Developing Next-Generation EV Technology

Ultraviolette plans to allocate a substantial portion of the funds toward developing its next-generation global EV platforms. These platforms leverage the company’s vertically integrated, in-house capabilities across battery technology, power electronics, vehicle architecture, and intelligent software.

Notably, Ultraviolette remains one of the few global EV manufacturers with internal technical capabilities covering battery architectures spanning from 48V all the way up to 400V. This broad spectrum of expertise allows the firm to tailor platforms for specific performance, range, thermal management, and packaging requirements across various vehicle categories.

Strategic Support and Leadership Insights

Industry leaders backing the brand highlighted Ultraviolette’s engineering-first strategy and in-house innovation.

  • Lip-Bu Tan, Chairman of Walden International and Advisor to Ultraviolette, praised the team’s willingness to build technology from first principles: “What I really like about Ultraviolette is the combination of deep engineering expertise, strong IP, and the willingness to take on genuinely difficult problems. They have built the technology from first principles and are focused on creating something that is truly differentiated for the long term.”
  • Ganapathy Subramaniam, Founding Managing Partner at Yali Capital, emphasized their safety and engineering focus: “What attracted us to Ultraviolette is the depth of engineering the team has built in-house; from the battery, powertrain to software and radar… Ultraviolette has taken the F77 from concept to the roads in India and Europe, and brought radar-based safety features into a production two-wheeler with the X-47. With the Tesseract, launching early next year, they will bring this engineering and safety focus to scooters…”
  • Ravi Jain, Investment Director at TDK Ventures, added: “The adoption of electric two-wheelers can be accelerated by superior products powered by differentiated technology. We continue to believe that Ultraviolette is best positioned to catalyze this transition…”
  • Narayan Subramaniam & Niraj Rajmohan, Founders of Ultraviolette, concluded: “This funding round represents an important step in Ultraviolette’s evolution into a global electric mobility company… This investment will enable us to scale manufacturing, accelerate the development of our future product platforms and deepen our presence across international markets.”
