At the heart of the YZF-R2 sits a newly developed 204cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, single-cylinder, 4-valve fuel-injected engine engineered jointly by Japanese and Indian teams. It produces a segment-leading 26.5 PS of power and 19.1 Nm of peak torque.
To reduce internal friction and reciprocating mass, the valvetrain features finger-follower rocker arms with Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating—a trick derived directly from Yamaha’s flagship YZF-R1. The engine is paired with an Assist & Slipper clutch, a 17-inch wheel setup, Traction Control System (TCS), and standard dual-channel ABS.
Lightweight Chassis and Supersport Handling
- Lightest in Segment: Built around a newly designed high-tensile steel tube diamond frame weighing just 14 kg, the bike tips the scales at a kerb weight of only 149 kg.
- R6-Inspired Geometry: The chassis layout draws direct inspiration from the YZF-R6, utilising a four-point engine mounting system with an extra anchor point to reduce flex and improve high-speed cornering feedback.
- Suspension: Features 37 mm upside-down (USD) front forks and a rear monoshock setup tuned to absorb bumps while maintaining crisp road-holding performance.
R-Series Design and Cockpit Technology
Drawing aerodynamic cues from the YZF-R9 and YZF-R1, the sharp fairing integrates a bi-functional LED headlight, dual LED position lights, a MotoGP-style swingarm, and a block-style LED taillight.
Inside the cockpit, riders get a 5-inch full-colour TFT display equipped with Yamaha Ride Control (YRC), offering three selectable riding modes: Street, Sport, and Rain.
