Toyota has noticeably stepped up its road testing for the upcoming Innova Hycross facelift across India. Following an initial sighting earlier this month, fresh spy shots of a heavily camouflaged test mule have surfaced on public roads, giving us the clearest look yet at the updated MPV’s revised front end.
While previous spy shots mostly captured the side profile and rear styling, these latest images reveal the front fascia in far greater detail, offering a solid preview of what Toyota has in store.
A Bold, SUV-Inspired Front Fascia
Despite the heavy disguises, the refreshed Toyota Innova Hycross appears to be taking heavy inspiration from the brand’s latest global SUV design language — particularly the new-generation Toyota Hilux.
Compared to the outgoing Innova Hycross, which features a more traditional MPV setup with a wide trapezoidal grille and swept-back headlamps, this facelifted model leans into a distinctly upright, rugged stance:
- Sleeker Headlamps: The new spy photos showcase slimmer lighting units set higher up on the front end.
- Upright Stance: The bonnet line meets the front fascia at a noticeably steeper angle, creating a far stronger road presence.
- Revised Bumper & Grille: The entire front bumper and grille structure have undergone a thorough redesign, mirroring the angular, sculpted aesthetic of the upcoming Hilux.
Interestingly, the new-generation Hilux is slated for its official Indian debut on 28 July. It seems Toyota is intentionally aligning its newest utility vehicle design aesthetic across multiple models simultaneously.
Blurring the Line Between MPV and SUV
Toyota has been steadily blurring the boundaries between people-carriers and SUVs with the Hycross. Moving away from the traditional ladder-frame setup of the Innova Crysta, the Hycross sits on a modern monocoque platform with a front-wheel-drive configuration.
With this mid-cycle update, Toyota is pushing that crossover appeal even further. Giving the Innova Hycross a punchier front fascia enhances its SUV-like appeal without compromising on its spacious multi-purpose interior and practical driving dynamics. This design shift is also expected to influence other upcoming vehicles in Toyota’s lineup, including the next-generation Toyota Fortuner, which is currently under development and likely to adopt similar visual elements.
What Changes on the Outside and Inside?
While the front end gets a major makeover, the rest of the exterior remains familiar:
- Side Profile: The silhouette, door panels, window lines, and body proportions remain identical to the existing model. The prototype was also seen riding on alloy wheels that match the current design.
- Rear Profile: The overall shape of the rear light clusters remains intact, though the internal LED light signatures have been updated. The rear bumper is also expected to receive subtle revisions once the camouflage comes off.
Upgraded Cabin and Technology
Interior glances from recent spy shots suggest Toyota is using this facelift to deliver meaningful cabin upgrades:
- Larger Infotainment Screen: Higher-spec variants of the current Innova Hycross carry a 10.1-inch touchscreen display. The facelifted version appears to be upgrading to a much larger unit, estimated at 12 inches or more.
- Enhanced Features: Customer feedback is driving several convenience additions. Potential features include an upgraded 360-degree camera system, refined connected-car tech, updates to the digital instrument cluster, and an electrically adjustable front passenger seat.
- Improved Cabin Comfort: Toyota is expected to refine interior fit and finish while making noticeable reductions in noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels for a quieter ride.
