With the 2025 MotoGP season heating up, Alex Marquez is determined to stay in the fight — even if he’s not quite at 100%. The Gresini Ducati rider is hoping to line up on the grid for this weekend’s German Grand Prix at Sachsenring, despite nursing a hand injury from his crash at Assen. Alex underwent surgery right after the Dutch GP accident and has been on the road to recovery since. His team has now confirmed that he’ll travel to Germany with the intention to race, but his participation is subject to clearing a medical test on Thursday, July 10.

Currently second in the championship standings — and trailing brother Marc Marquez by 68 points — Alex knows a title tilt isn’t realistic. But with Pecco Bagnaia 58 points behind him in third, holding onto second is now his biggest goal heading into the second half of the season.

Luca Marini Back in Action at Sachsenring

Over at Honda, there’s better news as Luca Marini is confirmed to return to racing this weekend. He’s been sidelined for three rounds following a nasty crash during Suzuka 8 Hours testing, but after a promising test at Brno, Marini is ready to get back on the bike.

“The test helped me understand where I’m at physically,” Marini shared. “I’m not perfect yet, but the best way to recover is to ride. This weekend is about finding rhythm, not results.”

Chantra Out With Knee Injury, Nakagami to Return (Briefly)

Meanwhile, Somkiat Chantra will miss the next two rounds due to ligament damage in his right knee, picked up in an off-road training accident. It’s unfortunate timing for the Thai rider, who had just scored his first MotoGP point at Assen.

There won’t be a replacement rider for Chantra in Germany, but Takaaki Nakagami — who retired from full-time racing in 2024 — will step in for the Czech GP the following week. Nakagami had handed over his LCR Honda seat to Chantra this season.

What to Watch for at Sachsenring

  • Will Alex Marquez pass the medical and race?
  • Can Marini shake off the rust and finish strong in the second half of 2025?
  • Will Marc Marquez continue his dominance — or will Alex’s return shake things up?
