The global braking giant Brembo has joined forces with Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems by signing a brand-new joint venture agreement. Together, they are setting up a fresh company called BRSF Active Safety Solutions, which will be completely dedicated to producing advanced ABS for the booming Indian motorcycle market.

Under the terms of the agreement, Brembo is taking the wheel with a 60% majority stake in the joint venture. The main goal here is to focus on the local assembly and supply of motorcycle ABS systems directly to the Indian market.

A State-of-the-Art Production Facility in Chakan

To get production rolling, the joint venture is setting up a dedicated manufacturing facility in Chakan (Pune), which happens to be one of India’s absolute biggest automotive and motorcycle industrial hubs. The location choice is incredibly convenient, as it sits right next door to the existing Brembo India plant.

The project is going all-out on tech, planning the deployment of highly advanced and automated assembly lines to ensure a massive focus on quality, efficiency, and pure industrial excellence. To start with, the plant is expected to employ around 50 people. However, this workforce will see a progressive ramp-up that aligns tightly with growing production volumes and the step-by-step localisation of their supply chain.

Dual-Channel and Single-Channel ABS Solutions

The new joint venture isn’t cutting any corners when it comes to covering the diverse requirements of the Indian motorcycle market. They will be offering both dual-channel and single-channel ABS solutions to cater to all customer needs and potential market opportunities.

BRSF Active Safety Solutions Product Roadmap:

  • Single-Channel ABS Solutions (For entry-level / mid-range segments)
  • Dual-Channel ABS Solutions (For premium / high-performance segments)
  • Future Tech: Advanced technology products to be introduced as needed

The entire industrial setup has been specifically designed to allow the joint venture to respond effectively to current market requirements, whilst remaining nimble enough to quickly react to evolving safety standards in India.

Boosting the BYBRE Brand and OE Partnerships

This clever synergy between Brembo and Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems opens up a massive opportunity to strengthen their leadership in foundation brake solutions for motorcycles under the popular BYBRE brand.

By working together, they can seamlessly supply advanced braking systems to Original Equipment (OE) customers across the country. Ultimately, the joint venture aims to position itself as a comprehensive solution provider, serving as a single, reliable partner for OE customers and acting as a highly competent integrator of foundation brake components and advanced braking solutions.

The Scale of the World’s Largest Two-Wheeler Market

It is no secret why both firms are investing so heavily in India. The country represents the world’s absolute largest two-wheeler market, boasting up to 25 million registered vehicles. The region is characterised by solid expansion rates, fantastic prospects for technological innovation, and a fast-growing consumer focus on road safety.

Perspective from the Leadership Team

Andrea Paganessi, the Motorcycle GBU Chief Operating Officer of Brembo, shared his excitement about the project:

“The joint venture with Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems reflects our commitment to supporting the progressive evolution of motorcycle safety standards in India. Leveraging our long-standing experience in the Indian market and by investing in local production and industrial capabilities, we aim to accompany the market’s transition toward more advanced braking solutions.”

Hill Shan, the Founder of Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems, added:

“Within this joint venture, our role is to translate this shared vision into an efficient and localized industrial operation. Together with Brembo, we are establishing a manufacturing platform focused on quality, reliability and the specific requirements of the Indian motorcycle market.”

By focusing heavily on technology transfer, top-tier operational efficiency, and a progressive localisation of the supply chain, this partnership cements a serious long-term industrial commitment to India. For those waiting to see the first units roll off the automated assembly lines, the final closing of the deal is currently subject to the usual customary regulatory approvals.
