JLR India has started assembling the popular Defender 110 at its Pune facility using completely knocked down (CKD) kits shipped directly from Slovakia. This shift to local assembly has led to a major price slash, bringing down ex-showroom prices of the Defender 110 by up to Rs 34 lakh!
This CKD initiative applies specifically to the Defender 110’s feature-packed X-Dynamic HSE trim, available across three engine options: a 300hp 2-litre turbo-petrol, a 350hp 3-litre diesel, and a 400 HP 3-litre petrol. Bookings are officially open with customer deliveries kicking off on November 15.
Price Drop & Trim Variant Breakdown
Here is how the new ex-showroom (New Delhi) pricing stacks up compared to the outgoing CBU (fully imported) models:
| Trim Variant & Engine | Engine Specs | Old CBU Price | New CKD Price | Total Price Reduction |
| X-Dynamic HSE 2.0L Turbo-Petrol | 300 hp, 2-litre Turbo-Petrol | Rs 1.13 Crore | Rs 99 Lakh | Rs 14 Lakh |
| X-Dynamic HSE 3.0L Diesel | 350 hp, 3-litre Diesel | Rs 1.52 Crore | Rs 1.18 Crore | Rs 34 Lakh |

Local Manufacturing Footprint & Sales Record
The Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE becomes the latest addition to JLR’s locally assembled portfolio in India, joining models like the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, and the Discovery Sport.
While the X-Dynamic HSE trim moves to CKD assembly, the rest of the Defender 110 lineup—including the flagship Octa, the 5-litre V8 models, and the 90 and 130 body styles—will continue to be imported as CBUs. The Defender was JLR India’s bestselling model in FY2026, with over 9,000 units sold in the country so far.
My Thoughts
“JLR starting local assembly and passing on a massive Rs 34 lakh price cut makes this Defender an even more popular option that it already is. In the Indian luxury car scene, the Defender has been an undisputed status symbol, but being a full CBU import put heavy tax duties on it. Bringing the 2.0-litre petrol variant down to Rs 99 lakh while adding up to Rs 17 lakh worth of optional equipment as standard on the 3.0-litre models makes it ridiculously good value compared to rivals like the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado or Mercedes-Benz GLE. All this makes it feel value for money even at a price tag of 1 crore.”
