Ola Electric has nailed a major milestone with BIS certification for its Ola Shakti 9.1kWh battery pack powered by 4680 Bharat Cells. This greenlights deliveries of India’s first residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) — fully designed, engineered, and made in India — starting end of January 2026.
The Shakti BESS earned its BIS license under IS 16242 (Part 1): 2025 / IEC 62040-1: 2017 standards, verified by a BIS-approved lab. It aced tough tests like short-circuit protection, overload safeguards, fire/thermal hazard prevention, electric shock protection, environmental stress, sonic pressure, and mechanical hazards.
An Ola Electric spokesperson said: “BIS certification for Shakti 9.1kWh unlocks our first residential BESS units. It’s key to reimagining India’s energy storage — affordable, smart Shakti BESS for homes, farms, and businesses, powering self-reliance with clean, on-demand energy.”
