Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. (SMIPL) is celebrating 20 years of production in the country. Since opening their doors in 2006, the Japanese giant’s Indian subsidiary has gone from a newcomer to a household name, doubling its sales in just the last four years and hitting a historic 10 million units production milestone in 2026.

Operating under the philosophy of being “By Your Side,” Suzuki has evolved from a small-scale manufacturer into a global production hub, exporting “Made-in-India” bikes to 77 countries.

From Humble Beginnings to a 10-Million Milestone

The journey kicked off in 2006 with the launch of the Suzuki Heat 125 and Zeus 125 motorcycles. However, the game really changed in 2007 with the arrival of the Suzuki Access 125. This iconic scooter essentially built the 125cc segment from the ground up and remains a bestseller today.

The growth timeline shows just how much momentum the brand has gained:

  • 2006: Production starts in India.
  • 2012: Reached the 1 million customer mark.
  • 2020: Hit the 5 million units milestone.
  • 2026: Celebrated the incredible 10 million two-wheelers produced in India.

A Portfolio for Every Rider

Over two decades, Suzuki has built a diverse line-up that covers everything from the daily school run to high-performance track days.

  • Scooters: The Access 125 was joined by the luxury-focused Burgman Street and the sporty Avenis, creating a well-rounded trio.
  • Motorcycles: The GIXXER series and the V-Strom SX have dominated the mid-range, while “big bikes” like the legendary Hayabusa, the GSX-8R, and the V-Strom 800 DE have cemented Suzuki’s premium status.
  • The Gixxer series will soon be updated as well as we reported earlier.

Future-Ready: Electric Mobility and Flex-Fuel

As SMIPL looks toward the next 20 years, they aren’t just sticking to petrol. Managing Director Kenichi Umeda highlighted a “multi-pathway approach” to carbon neutrality. This includes:

  • Electric Mobility: The launch of the Suzuki e-Access marks their first major step into the EV space.
  • Flex-Fuel Technology: Suzuki is tackling greener fuels with the GIXXER SF 250 FFV, which is fully E85-compliant.
  • Expansion: To keep up with soaring demand, groundwork has already begun on a second manufacturing plant at Kharkhoda.

The “By Your Side” Ecosystem

Suzuki’s success isn’t just about the machines; it’s about the people. Today, the brand boasts 1,240 touchpoints across every state in India and maintains strong partnerships with 212 suppliers.

Umeda-san credits the “One-by-One” way of working—delivering the highest quality in every single unit—for building the trust that has brought smiles to millions of Indian riders. Whether it’s through robust after-sales support or new innovations like the Burgman Street, Suzuki is staying true to its promise of being a reliable partner on every journey.

As they blow out the candles on their 20th-anniversary cake this 23 April 2026, it’s clear that Suzuki Motorcycle India is just getting started. With a new factory on the horizon and a push into electric and ethanol-powered bikes, the next two decades look set to be even faster than the last.
