The 2027 KTM 790 DUKE has been unveiled marking the most extensive evolution within the lifecycle of this model to date.
Affectionately nicknamed ‘The SCALPEL’ for its legendary apex-carving precision, this newest iteration brings an aggressive styling update, more intuitive tech, and rider-focused ergonomic improvements. Together, these updates look set to reinforce its position as the ultimate benchmark in the middleweight Naked bike segment.
Aggressive Styling and Grown-Up Stance
Right off the bat, the aesthetic updates make it clear that the 2027 KTM 790 DUKE has evolved. It adopts the exact same aggressive stance as its bigger siblings, the KTM 990 DUKE and the monster KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R.
To give it a larger, more “grown-up” appearance on the road, the designers have treated the motorcycle to:
- A completely redesigned headlight unit
- Streamlined, sharper bodywork
- A larger front fairing setup
- A beautifully reshaped fuel tank
Parallel-Twin Engine Power and Variant Specs
Under the skin, the 2027 naked bike retains its proven, high-performance heartbeat. It is powered by the EURO 5+ compliant 799 cc LC8c parallel-twin powerplant.
To cater to different licensing rules around the world, KTM is offering the bike in two power outputs:
| Variant | Maximum Power |
| Standard Version | 105 hp |
| A2 Licence Compliant Variant | 95 hp |
Completing the updated engine package is a newly designed exhaust and muffler system, ensuring the parallel-twin roars with character.
Reworked Rider Triangle and a 2 kg Weight Drop
The biggest engineering improvements on the 2027 KTM 790 DUKE focus on a completely reworked rider triangle. KTM took a close look at ergonomics to deliver a more natural, highly connected riding position. The bike now features a new handlebar shape with a more open angle, repositioned footpegs for both the rider and passenger, and a noticeably improved seat.
Handling has been sharpened further thanks to a new subframe, new triple clamps, and that reshaped tank design, all working in unison to provide excellent chassis and front-wheel feedback. Best of all, despite its bulkier, mature look, the engineering team has achieved a 2 kg weight reduction, which makes the bike even more agile than before.

No More Demo Mode!
In a fantastic move, KTM explicitly stated that they listened and acted upon direct rider feedback. This has led to the phased withdrawal of the controversial “Demo Mode” from future models—a clear, consumer-centric decision shaped entirely by those who actually buy and ride the bikes.
In-House WP Radial Brakes and Premium Components
High-specification components come standard on the 2027 model. To refine handling and high-speed stability, a WP steering damper is equipped straight from the factory.
The stopping power gets a massive premium upgrade with all-new, in-house developed WP radial brakes. This complete braking system marks a major step forward in rider-focused performance. It offers improved braking power whilst requiring less effort at the lever, resulting in a smooth, linear response without a harsh initial bite.
Advanced Adjustable WP APEX Suspension Specs
The suspension hasn’t been left untouched either. The proven WP APEX hardware has received a thorough update at both ends of the motorcycle:
- Front Suspension: A WP APEX 43 mm open-cartridge upside-down front fork offering 150 mm of suspension travel. It utilizes clever split-function technology with fully adjustable compression and rebound damping.
- Rear Suspension: An adjustable, gas-assisted WP APEX Monotube shock absorber serving up 170 mm of travel, complete with adjustable rebound damping and preload.
To keep things user-friendly, the suspension can be effortlessly adjusted via an easy-to-use 5-click dial. This setup gives riders the confidence to fine-tune the motorcycle to their own personal feel and weight requirements without running into unnecessary technical complexity.
Cut on Command Philosophy
With upgraded Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres fitted as standard to further strengthen its dynamic character, the 2027 KTM 790 DUKE remains steadfast in its classic ‘Cut on Command’ philosophy. The machine behaves like a natural extension of its pilot, reacting in perfect synchronization with every input while asserting its elevated Naked authority on the road.
For owners looking to take things a step further, a full range of official KTM PowerParts and KTM PowerWear is readily available, allowing riders to fully personalise their motorcycles and kit themselves out in track-ready riding gear.
