It looks like the folks over at TVS Motor Company are busy cooking up something special for fans of retro-modern style. Recent patent filing in India, suggests that the TVS Ronin Cafe Racer is officially on its way to production.

If anyone remembers the TVS Ronin SCR (the “Special Custom Ronin”) that stole the show at TVS MotoSoul back in 2023, this new patent seems to be the polished, road-ready version of that concept. While the standard Ronin is a bit of a “scrambler-meets-cruiser” hybrid, this new variant is leaning hard into that classic cafe racer silhouette.

What’s New on the Ronin Cafe Racer?

The patent images reveal some pretty distinct “cafe” vibes that set it apart from the base model. Here’s what’s changing:

  • The Cockpit: The most obvious tweak is the clip-on handlebars. This is going to give the bike a much more aggressive, “tucked-in” riding position compared to the upright stance of the current Ronin. Although we are not expecting it to be very low slung like typical clip-ons.
  • The Rear End: Say goodbye to the flat bench. The patent shows a sporty rear seat cowl, giving it that essential single-seater look (though it’ll likely be removable for a pillion).
  • Bodywork: There’s a new, stylish headlight cowl (or bikini fairing) that should wrap around the signature T-shaped LED DRL, adding to the streamlined aesthetic.
  • Rear-set Footpegs: To match the clip-ons, the foot controls/pegs looks to be moved back slightly, completing the sporty ergonomics.

Under the Hood: Familiar Performance

While the “suit” is new, the “athlete” underneath remains the same. The TVS Ronin Cafe Racer is expected to carry over the proven mechanicals from the standard bike:

  • Engine: The 225.9cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled motor.
  • Output: It’ll likely pump out 20.4 hp at 7,750 rpm and 19.93 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm.
  • Transmission: A 5-speed gearbox featuring a slip and assist clutch for those smooth downshifts.

The bike will also retain its premium kit, including the USD (Upside Down) front forks, a rear monoshock, and disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS (likely with ‘Rain’ and ‘Urban’ modes).

When Can We Expect It?

Given that the patent is now public and the design looks production-ready, we are expecting a mid year launch, around June/July.

In terms of pricing, expect it to sit slightly above the current top-spec Ronin (which is around ₹1.60 lakh ex-showroom). With the cafe racer market heating up thanks to bikes like the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, TVS is clearly looking to offer a more accessible, small-capacity alternative for city riders who want that “Ace Cafe” look.

TVS has a knack for making bikes that handle brilliantly, and the Ronin platform is already a fantastic urban commuter. Adding a cafe racer variant brings a much-needed dose of “cool” to the 225cc segment, giving riders a factory-custom look without the hassle of a DIY build.

Do you think the TVS Ronin looks better as a scrambler or a café racer? Also, do you want TVS to bring a Scrambler version as well?
